I have a 4X4 F-150 & have Michelin's.

Before I bought, I checked out the tire # at both Costco, and a couple neighborhood tire stores. (Not Wally's World - don't go there.) Very price competative.

I really like the Michelin's, a little pricey yes, but after reading reviews and riding on them for over a year - they're worth every penny. BTW I drive almost 4 miles on a dirt road to my home.

I know this doesn't answer your "American made" question, but since they are, you might want to consider them.

That said, and American manufacturing job is worth more to me than an overseas corporate headquarters. I've had Hondas from Ohio and a Subaru from Indiana. I'll proudly hold them up against those Canadian Dodges and the Mexican Fords and Chevys.

If you aren't buying something produced locally, it's hard to specify production location- and the brand on the label doesn't generally give you too much of a clue.

In Oklahoma we have a Goodyear plant in Lawton and a Michelin plant in Ardmore. Employ thousands of people between the two.

I just bought a pair of Goodyear tires for my Chevy that were made in USA.

I do like Michelin tires very much. They seem to wear like iron.

Ain't that the truth!

I just got a pair of Goodyear tires, but only because they had road hazard coverage, which was pro-rated. Two tires cost me $70 or so.

If I wouldn't have had that option, I am pretty sure I would have bought Michelin.

Arg, you're right. They went with the name Bridgestone to sound American, and I fall for it almost every time. I forget they are a Japanese company, and always were. Double ARG!

And as a triple arg, I thought Michelin had become a US tire company at some point. That was wrong also.

Arg, arg, arg!

Saw this thread and emailed my sister who has owned a tire store for 30yrs. This is her quick reply

All major tire manufacturers have plants in the USA unless it is a China import brand - China import will have names that are not common/recognizable. Cooper is not a major brand but instead is an independent brand. The unfortunate part is all of these tire manufacturers are not owned by an American company.

Bridgestone = Japan
Goodyear is now Japan
Michelin is French
and on and on and on

I love Michelin tires , We had a nail puncture in my daughters S10 blazer at 70+ and her LTX started smoking as it went flat , but I never lost control as it let us make it safely to the side of the road. ( for that reason alone , she only run's Michelin's ) But in this economy it is just not feasible for me to buy a pair . I did manage to find a decent pair of used 10 ply. LTX M/S for the back of our van . I put 2 new 10 ply Trazano SL 309's on the front before our trip to Az. and with all the off road driving on rocks and gravel to the mining claim , and the cross country highway trip , they show no signs of wear and I am very happy with them . ( there was a set on my 4 X 4 pick up when I bought it , so I have driven on them before .)

I find nothing about GoodYear being owned by Japan.
