If he was a real heavy smoker you will also want to put a coat of sealer over the subfloor when you replace the carpet.

Thanks WWW. What kind of sealer? Like Thompson's or something heavier?

There is no rule as to how often IMO. Some people tire of colors more quickly than others do. The only rule I have is don't use cheap paint! Always prime if you have to! I had to repaint my place because the paint would just peel off the walls.

Usually it's when I look at the walls and need to see something new. So about every 3-4 years unless it's dirty paint or something like that!

I know of a house that was built in the 1928, and the walls have only been painted once, I do think it is time to repaint those walls, there kinda showing there age,

if you think it needs it paint it, if you don't wait a year or so until you think it needs it,

my wife think our house needs it more often than I do,

You have to paint a lot less often and use a lot less paint if you use good paint. I was amazed when I painted our last house. I painted the family room using paint from Lowe's because I liked the color. I then painted other rooms using good paint from a small, local paint store. They have California brand paints. The difference was amazing. The good quality stuff didn't splatter or drip. It needed fewer coats and looked so much better. We used the good stuff when we moved.

Oh, we painted the entry before we sold the last house. The painter wanted to work with paint from Sherwin Williams and since he was in our Sunday School class and painted for free.... we got Sherwin Williams paint. I hated it. It was not nearly as good a quality paint.

My dad built our house in 1957. I repainted the interior for the first time in 2005, after the parents were both deceased.

I love to paint,

and change things. I paint one room every year, for sure. That way, if I ever have to sell the place, it will be updated and not need painting all at the same time. When I moved here, I painted every room and the outside also, all the first year. I am 70 and painted the outside this Spring. A lovely soft green with cream shutters...

We moved to our house in the burbs 20 years ago, and I am currently repainting the family bathroom for the third time. I replaced the wall to wall carpet that was in the bathroom (yes, I said wall to wall carpet in the bathroom, ugh) with peel and stick vinyl squares when I painted the bathroom the first time. That has now yellowed with age and is dated. We are getting the house ready for sale so we can move to our ranch full time. I am replacing the dated flooring too.
