We will add a roof and rabbit wire to them but they are nice sturdy cages and should work great for that purpose. Husband told my uncle who burns kerosene that he should take one to store his kerosene in as they have really dandy pour spouts with lever type shut off.
Using them as cages is a great idea! The ones I'm getting have about a 4x6" grid on the cage, but I've seen some with a much small grid. If you can get them free, the cage would also make a great trellis for vining plants. Or, as someone has mentioned, a mini-greenhouse.

The ones we have got also have the 4 x 6" grid but I am going to line them with rabbit wire and will probably have to run a center support across the bottom. Using them as a trellis for plants is another great idea - hadn't thought of that! I looked at the hazard label and they say that even those this is a non-hazardous material it should be handled with care. I will have to look at the data sheets to see what they actually held. I am trying to think of ways to use the plastic tanks separate from the cages as they are a nice resource also.

I'll second an idea already mentioned here.

I think those wire cages would be ideal, with some modification, for hauling or keeping small animals, especially for short term holding or transporting.

Ours come from a local Feed Store.... I have no idea where they get them.
