Vanilla Extract

I've been told that American vodka, by definition, has no flavor of it's own. That's why people use it as a base for home made liquers. Imported vodkas usually have a flavor, which you may, or may not like in your vanilla or liquers.

Whenever I used vodka for a tincture, I buy the cheap 100 proof, but run it through a Brita filter. I have a separate filter that I use just for vodka.

Heard one woman was arrested for DWI. Her offense? Drinking vanilla extract which apparently had 45% alcohol in it! That's a powerful punch and who would spend that much money on it? Seems she was banned from drinking alcohol (beer, wine, etc) but got around it by drinking vanilla extract. Will wonders ever cease?
