Propane has a place but it is a PITbutt too haul a 80 pound tank over too have it filled . , fordy

my gas stove is so nice , nothing fancy just a plain jane white range 4 burners 2 oven , but i hate electric stoves so bad
i pay for gas and electric , the gas bill for the stove we cook on all the time 5 peope 3 meals a day and the gas drier for 5 peoples laundry averages 14 dollars a month thats including the 6 dollar meter fee so i use 8 dollars of natural gas to cook meals and dry cloths for 5 people and it is so worth that 8 dollars

the first few months we lived in our house we were waiting for to the gas line to be installed we cooked everything on our colman propane stove with adapeter hose to 20 pound tank it worked just fine

it was an older version 3 burner version but somthing like this

http://www.coleman.com/coleman/Colem..._id=2000002028

, i still use the colman stove for camping and my 26 quart pot fits on it with the sides folded down for chicken scalding , my canners fit for canning it gets a lot of use. but i haven't bought a 1 pound bottle in years , i am on my second adapter hose it got to close once when we were scalding chickens and hey there is fire comming from that hose so make sure the hose is below the stove, the tank had gottem moved the stove was on the ground and the hose was to close.

You can use a Coleman camp stove in the house. I did it for 5 yrs. Gas is so high that from March thru Sept, I don't use my propane stove, I either just use the camp stove, or something similar. Last year, my sister gave me a 3 burner electric "hot plate" sort of thing from QVC. It is a Cooks Essential brand and works really well-with the exception that it takes a little while to get as hot as I like it. This year, I have used an electric skillet, a fry daddy (you can make soups, pasta, rice etc with it as well as fry things), and amicrowave. I have a toaster oven if I want to bake anything, but I just plan accordingly since my stuff is too big for the little toaster oven.

It is really doable. When we first moved here, I didn't have a fridge, so we used the chest freezer, turned it down to fridge settings and used that.

I ended up going with a 2 burner that got excellent reviews. A bit more money than the really cheap ones but I think it'll be worth it.

Can you please tell me, pretty please, which one you have? Based on the recommendations to get a 2 burner propane stove for outside canning I bought one, but it wasn't as sturdy as it looked and wouldn't hold the weight of a fully loaded canner at all on those spindly legs.

I'd reaaaaally like to get a good strong one that can be used for canning without destroying the bottom of my canner or nice pots.

Thanks!

many years ago, my gramma didn't have a stove, but got a hotplate burner. many years later, oddly enough i wound up living in that same house, and i didn't have a stove--so my mom loaned me an old hot plate. was the same one!! the house no longer belonged to my gr'ma so my happening to live there was really funny.

i was single, but did plenty of cooking on that thing.

I have a friend who did her canning outside on this firepit. The rack is made from the shoes of her draft horses.
