Chris 30523, the one thing you have to remember about food cost is that most of the postings on here are talking about a pretty self sefficient life. Large gardens, raising livestock, canning your own food. I know I couldn't even come close to making it on $50 a month for food right now, but my plan is to have a very large garden, can my own food. I will have a milk cow that will supply milk, cheese, cream, butter, and some of the feed needed for my other animals. I will be raising my own Beef. Will have chickens, for meat and eggs, and also my own pork. I will be growing most of my own feed for my animals too. One more thing, I plan to have a large group of fruit trees.

good point startupman. Shouldn't we be prepared in the event something happens and we cannot supply as much of our own food as we had planned? We supply most of the feed for our animals now by cutting hay every year. It is really hard work and the equipment is expensive to keep up and use. I do have a large garden and fruit trees .
