Bill, I don`t have the time anymore, I use to cut hay with the horses,JD # 3 mower, and rake hay. I would give up farming if I had to load loose hay, ain`t nothing harder than loading loose hay. The only rake I have seen with one tail wheel is a New Idea, tedder rake, When you tedded hay the inside wheel would flip up so the hay would not hit it. Still hay that rake, and several more. I have close to 100 pieces of horse equipment in differant stages of repair. Some have been saved from the scrap yard, some given to me by people cause they new I would keep it, and alot bought on farm auctions. I saw a mower one day I wanted and my wife said and why do we need another mower? Because I don`t have that kind, and she said , "SO" . I didn`t get it. I also have a buck rake that never put back togeather. I think you should also use the 90# oil in the gear box on your mower, trust me when your mowing it will be warm enough the oil won`t be to heavy. Anyone need any equipment, just ask I may have it to sell, as I`m going to start getting rid of some of the stuff that sits outside, but it won`t be for scrap. I love talking horse, so keep talking guys. Also I have used a horse power for running differant things, like elevator, corn sheller, buz saw, stump puller, threasher. I have three of the two horse horse powers, but have hooked to one of the six team horse powers at the threashing shows. My horses always worked good on voice comands so they always liked my horses on the horse powers. >Thanks Marc

Hey Cyndi, remember when neither of us were married? we use to see each other at Gail Deets horse farming days. Everyone use to have so much fun at the horse farming days. We had many a good time behind the lines of the horses showing people how it was done. >Thanks Marc

Marc,
I was reading this on digest and didn't look at the user name who posted this. I got to this line and thought, "that sounds like Marc" ... sho 'nuff. I agree with your lovely wife, you have too many HD implements lying around!!

Mr Deets, (with a lot of help from you and his friends) put on a grand horse farming event every year. My kids loved it (as did I). I was thrilled when Mr Deets let me drive his team on the wagon & hay loader. I still have pictures of Dan up on the wagon pitching hay from the loader. That same event was when Mike got stepped on, then having his dirty face displayed across America in John Deere's magazine, playing in the straw and peering over the wagon of oats.

Good times! It would be fun to have an annual event like that again, in memory of Mr Deets. I think he'd like that.

I'll believe that when I see it! (So will Catherine) LOL!

Went up and looked at my #9. Couldnt see or feel a check plug. Im thinking you might take off the top plate, and there may be a fill indicator on the inside of the gearcase. I did find, looking at my SAFJ mags, that IHC had a plate put undernieth the axle that tells the month year day that one of their mowers was made. #7s and #9s were made tween 32 and 46

The top cover flips up on my #9's IIRC. You put the oil in the gearbox up to about half covering the input shaft IIRC.

I put all my hay loose with horses. Been doing it that way for 5 years now. Wouldn't do it any other way.
