There is a lot of confusion where we live between a rick, a face cord, and a full cord. We have found we have to push people to be very specific as to what they're selling us.
We finally went online and printed off the dimensions of each.

I think I did well then. I had the end blocks of oak stacked in my half-ton just a little higher than the top. I think for 20 bucks I did well. I think I will be going back this week again. As I stated earlier, these are around 2 inches thick and 10 inches wide and one split will be the only thing required for heating. They are already at the right lengths.

Uh, you do realize a cord of wood is 4'x4'x8', right ?
(128 cuft any way you stack it ).....and that is enough to fill a long, wide bed truck almost twice....and somebody will do that there for 35 bucks ??
wow......
By the way, "face" cords mean nothing and no one should buy wood that way....is the wood 16" long ? ( 1/3 cord ).....24" long ( 1/2 cord ) or 4" long ?
Looking at the "face", they all look the same.

Thats a great deal , We use to buy it like that from my buddies saw mill in maine for our camp . I also would go in and clean up his landings for a price after he moved out .
After cutting , splitting , and filling our wood shed , I would bring the extra back to Boston and sell it for $ 175 a pick up truck load , mostly rock maple ( Maple Sugar trees ) it helped with the gas .

Thanks luvrulz
What a great idea , I can fill up my new 18 ft. flatbed car trailer with rock maple from Maine , place a couple of bales of hay on the back and tarp it good .
If I don't sell all the wood , We can burn it at the mining base camp , sitting by the fire , listening to the coyotes howl around us , and I can buy a rust free truck or jeep to bring back to New England .
Our one ton Dodge maxi van gets almost the same milage towing our new 9,000 # cam-superline full diamond plate car trailer , as it does empty , and you almost forget it's back there .

Almost always see it sold by full cords here, yet in my experience about 1 in 4 dealers will actually deliver a pile of wood that = 4X4X8 feet when stacked.
heres some rough prices from my daily perusal of CL, all delivered hardwood:
Green:
log length = ~$100-$125
cut rounds = ~$125-150
cut, split = ~$150-$175
"seasoned" = not dredged out of pond the day before....NOT equal to ready to burn
cut, split, delivered = ~$175 - $250

Sellers here try to get $110-140 per face cord cut and split, but it really only starts selling around $95

around here "face" cord 4x8x16in and that sells for approx $70-$90.00 we also have "bush" cords that is 4x8x4 , if you have an outdoor furnace it's ready to go but if you have a samller stove it still needs to be cut into 1ft lengths. We've bought bush cords for $180.00 but really varies on type etc..thankfully the last few years we've had lots of downed trees to clean up in our bush and our 2 neighbours.

I think you did very well indeed!
If I had an offer like that, I'd be back and forth with the F250 until I'd gotten enough for this Winter AND next.

Face cord of dried hardwood, delivered runs $70-80. Slab wood, or mill ends go for $60.

Back about 20 years ago I had access to lots of free wood, hardwood, mostly oak. So I decided to sell firewood. I had a pretty good 1 1/2 ton truck with an old military bed and could put about 1 1/4 cords on it.
Dealing with the public on the issue of 'cord sizes' was not a problem, as I quickly learned that it saved time and discussion to simply tell folks that they would get 128 cubic feet of wood for their money. I had mixed hardwood, mostly oak and would custom cut the length if they wanted. My wood was always delivered green and split, and stacked so that it could be measured easily.
And STILL there would always be SOMEONE who wanted to argue and fuss about cord sizes. I really got to where I hated that conversation and if I ran into someone who pestered me too much about it, then I would politely tell them to buy elsewhere.
It is hard enough to cut split stack in the truck to measure, then haul and stack again, and sell around 200 hundred cords a season, by my lonesome with no handling equipment other than a strong back, without running afoul of some know it all who wants to argue about whether he's getting a cord or not......the tape measure doesn't lie and any way you cut it, 128 cu.ft. is a cord. At the time I charged $75 a cord.
My back is not strong enough now to do it anymore, but I sure do love cutting wood. I always get compliments on my supply of firewood. Can't wait for cool weather and the smell of woodsmoke in the air.

$20 for a truck load of dried fire wood that only needs splitting sounds good.

NEPA, Full cord split and deliverd ranges from 155 to 275 seasoned. I got log lengths delivered and I measured them prior to paying...4 cords (un cut and un split, which has yielded me 7 cords split and stacked (air gaps, etc.) for 300. Local grocery, wrapped small bundles, about 1/2 night's use, $6. Truck load (pickup, assume 1/3 cord) cut, split, seasoned, $75.
Matt
PS, last year, it was $150, period, for split and delivered cord in August, in October, it went to $250, and people were desperately trying to load up. This year, not a whole bunch of folks are buying much, according to my supplier. Also a lot of homes now sit empty...1351 Tax sale properties end of this month...might get me some more land, with woods...:-)

Saw a guy on CL selling what he claimed was all dense fuelwoods for #35/pickup, #70/cord. Not the norm though, it usually runs double that...
About an hour north of here there was a massive ice storm last year, this summer, while cruising around, there were several people with some huge wood piles! I wonder what the prices in that area look like this year...

Way I always understood it, was a full cord is 128cu ft as others say. A face cord is one third of that. Around here in Ozarks, wood is sold by the "rick" which has no definite meaning, legal or otherwise. Usually its somewhere between a face cord and a full size pickup load. And the going price for a rick is $45 out here in the boonies. Double that for wood delivered in town. For all the work involved, I wouldnt begrudge somebody $45 for an honest face cord. I still cut all my own wood, but can see the time coming in future during my "golden years" where I would buy it.

When I asked My buddy " the logger " in Maine , years ago when I first met him , before I bought and rebuilt my own JD 440 skidder and worked with Him in the early eighty's .
How much does your log truck hold ? He replied , It depends on if I am Buying or Selling
