BigRockpile, since you're "kinda" close to me, would you tell me where you get yours or where the local MFA is? Thanks!

Seed wheat here in Canada is cleaned to a higher spec than baking wheat. Check out seed cleaners in your area and they may be able to direct you to someone from whom you can purchase the wheat. If you are wanting to bake bread, you need a good quality hard wheat with a good falling number otherwise you have trouble rising your bread.

I'm sorry I've always took it as MFA being State wide. But I like Lebanon. But I'm sure any MFA should be able to help you and probably closer.

I just got 50# from an elevator here for $10.50. Yep, it's not clean. I toss it in front of a fan a few times then call it done. I grind in as I need it so usually between 1 and 10 cups at a time. I can clean it more then if I need to. I just grind the chafe along with the seed and don't worry about it.

I don't buy seed wheat because it's all treated here. Wheat is not a "normal" crop in this region, most farms are corn and soybean. The west side of the state grows the wheat, so I don't have too many options. Wal-Mart here has nothing other then a 10# bag of white flour.

Go to Tindiel feed in Harrison they may be able to help you. Or go to Race Brothers in Harrison. Or go to Marshall Milling in Marshall they are a true MFA dealer.

I've got a call into the MFA in West Plains & the manager is going to see if they can special order Hard Red wheat (for people eat'n) for me & for how much.

I just picked up a bag of the feed wheat from our local mill down the road but have yet to open it up, they said it is a soft wheat.

I totally forgot about Race Brothers in Harrison (don't get to Harrison much), will try calling them next week & see. Thanks!

Well, opened the local feed store "feed wheat". Too many "other" things in there. I wouldn't mind if it was just mostly chaff because I'd just grind it up with the wheat, but there were soybeans, small chunks of corn cob, pelleted something-or-other & clumps of unknown stuff.

The goats & chicken love it, so it's not like I'm out the $7 it cost. And I was thinking that maybe I'd try sprouting some of it & if that goes well, I'll buy some for the winter to sprout for some greens for the animals.
