Horse was a popular meal with the Lewis and Clark expedition (especially in areas where buffalo, beef, and deer were scarce).

Most fast-food hamburger is made from old, worn-out dairy cows that can no longer sustain the quotas.

Well, you ARE on HT, I would think you are preaching to the choir there.

That said, nothing wrong with old cow burger. That's why burger was invented in the first place.

I invite you to go read the other thread on Ohio's new farming laws. It's weird that the same people who advocate allowing the government to monitor and control all livestock production don't realize that the commercial food from Big Ag is raised FAR WORSE than most small independent farms.

So is just about any steak dinner you buy in a restaurant that costs less than $15-16, and most of the steaks and roasts in supermarkets that have been, how to put it , "dressed up" (pepper steak, pre-marinated roasts)

Well, no, but they are usually the lesser cuts of good and choice beef. That, or they been in a display case a few days and they need to dress them up to move them.

As far as cheap restaurant steaks I would bet most of them are foreign grass fed, (they don't pump them full of grain in Australia, NZ, or South America), or domestic "heiferettes".

There are some things you just don't buy "on sale".

Raw oysters and parachutes, for instance.

A friend of mine (and his wife) went to Mongolia about five years ago to adopt a child. My friend said he ate horse meat several times during his visit there. He said he enjoyed it.
