Do Dogs Eat Cucumbers?
Do dogs like cucumbers?
My little JRTs are the only two dogs that can get into the garden. This morning I picked two cucumbers, and laid them on the edge of the raised bed while I finished watering. Went into the house, and about a half hour later realized I'd forgotten the cukes. Went back out to retrieve them, and there was only one! No sign of the other! What the heck? |
My dogs eat anything I hand to them. He might have just buried them to play with later. My dogs have done that with zuccini. :)
Mine would play with them. :)
We had a beagle/terrier mix when I was a child. Sparky would eat any food except bananas and jello. I took care of a hound that ate tea bags - he'd take anything he could get to, BUT he, too rejected bananas :). We found a bunch of bananas on the floor with incriminating punctures but still intact.
My two big dogs won't touch veggies of any kind, but my mini schnauzer loves them -- cukes included. She picks peas herself now that she's figured out where they come from.
Ha! So it probably WAS one of the JRTs. I used to have a huge lab who watched me picking blackberries one summer, and proceeded to gingerly nibble some off the canes for himself.
Had a dog that would eat strawberries off the plant, figs off the tree, and would pull down those sugar sweet cherry tomatoes and eat them. He'd eat anything except pickles. You couldn't sneak a pickle past his dog lips.
I had a dog once that would pick the ripe tomatoes off the plant, never touched a green one though.
I don't know about cukes but we had a Doberman who would pick her own tomatoes. If she couldn't find any ripe ones at our place she'd head down the road to one of my uncles to find one.
Knew a fellow that had a couple of dogs that would eat the cantaloupes when they got ripe and would eat the ripe peaches on the low hanging branches.
My doxie mix eats cukes, and she already knew how to gingerly pick and eat blackberries when I found her as a young stray! ldc
I had an Austrilian shepard that would pick green beans off the plant but her real love was corn on the cob. Nothing could get between her and her corn.
Wow, we have a lotta fruit-pickin' veggie-eatin' pups among us, don't we?
Oh yea, our dog would eat green beans but only after someone picked them. She'd come up and snatch a mouth full out of your picking bucket.
Got a yellow lab that loves cukes. Prefers to snatch one out of my bucket but if I scold him he will go pick his own. He will eat a couple every time I'm in the garden and I've seen him go on his own to get one.

We can't let our lab mix Tom in the garden when we harvest sweet pototoes. I think that dog could eat a whole bushel basket of sweet potatoes! And he'll eat English peas right off the vine. The first dog hubby and I owned together, Huck, loved lettuce. When we had salad I woud fix Huck a bowl too. He'd eat every bit of it and beg for ours. |
My lab picks and eats blueberries off the bushes. For a colorblind animal she seems to get the ripe ones LOL
My three dogs eat all vegetables and fruit. They love bananas but the only thing I have seen them pick for themselves is tomatoes.
It depends wether it has salad dressing on it.....LOL

Growing up my dog's favorites were banana's, butter, and bread. Our last dog we had would eat ANYTHING that fell off a high chair! We never had to vacuum under a high chair after the kids were done eating. So our current dog we named Hoover....thinking he would do the same. Well, Hoover will eat nothing other then chicken. It took us over a year to find a dog food he would eat when we moved to Europe. The silly dog won't even eat any dog treats.
My Grt Pyr/Rottie mix won't eat Cucumbers, she will take them from my hand when I ask her if she wants a treat, but then politely put them down on the floor. Other than that and various Squashes she eats pretty much everything!

I would think they do.
All 3 of my dogs loved the left over zucchini or overgrown ones that got away from me! They especially loved them raw with a lil salt on em. Zucchini hasn't come in this year yet, but I'm sure looking forward to zucchini cakes and zucchini bake this year. I'm sick of fried. lol |
I have 2 JRT's (females) and they both hate cucumbers........but maybe they played with it? or buried it?
Yes, my dogs will eat various "strange" things. Shady-eats all the pickel butts and pealings I give him. Had a horse, he liked, PbJ sanwiches, Pepsi from a bottle and Hot dogs in the bun. I suspect he probably would eat pretty much everything.
Mine are obsessed with anything in the cabbage family - they'll come running before I even realize I'm cutting it. ALL my Labs have been veggie lovers, but only one would pick things off the plants. That said, he would pick ANY fruits and/or veggies. I don't remember one he wouldn't pick if he could reach it. I had tomatoes in pots on the porch and had to move them out of reach of our Basset or we'd never get any ripe tomatoes. The minute there was a hint of orange to them, she'd eat them.
Jack would of eaten it, the other dogs would of played with it and put holes in it LOL Jack also loves to steal peas from my bowl as I'm picking them, along with any berries, tomatoes, squash...
the dogs LOVE to steal potatoes from the counter. I've found potatoes everywhere in the house---including buried deep in my bed, the couch, and in shoes. bananas they like to steal and make holes in but obviously don't like the taste. |
Our dog loves veggies and fruits. She eats more stuff out of the garden then any other of the wild critters around combined!
