Well so far the government hasn't instituted check points between state lines, so the only way of anyone finding out what you have is either to be stopped by the police for a traffic violation or being in an accident.

Obey all state laws and don't get in an accident, and you will be fine.

An arrest was made on I-70 in Columbia, MO last month; a guy was transporting 50+ pounds of pot, and didn’t have a rear license plate. Probably would have gotten away with it if he hadn’t taken the rear plate off to put on another vehicle.
Thus explains why they call it dope!!

Federally, no. But I can think of several states who have.

you should have no problems

first you said the guns went with the movers so guns and amo sre definitly stored seterate

second no one will know whats packed in the card board boxes in your van and you have every right to move peacably thru any state if you were to get pulled over
you simply don'e say anything , apologize for whatever they found wrong with your driving , accept fines , tickets or warnings

i have been pulled over with guns in the truck a few times , i don't say anything and they don't ask , just take care of buisiness and move on

some one said take the southern route , i think you need to stop confusing the north with the northeast i know when the war of northern agretion was faught that the north east was the north but with the exception of Illinoise i can't think of a state you would pass thru that has any sort of restrictive gun laws

Idaho , wyoming ,nebraska, kansas , missouri , southern tip of Illinois your so far from chicago youd hardly know you were in the same state, kentucky and virginia

perhaps there is some one from each of these states that could say no problem here to put you at ease.

but i would not expect any problems at all.

Of course the movers can't take it and he wants me to bring it, so it would have to go in the car.

Would be driving from OR to VA.

OK.. the question is.. how much Ammo can I bring across state lines legally?

Or would it be better to just have him buy more at the other end?
Did the movers pack all your boxes for you? If not it would go in boxes between pillows if it were me.

One thought on stashing it all over your house, our house burnt down a couple of months ago and it was like fireworks going off in the gun closet. Having them all over makes it kinda dangerous for the fireman.

a) To be safe from legalities, if you are carrying ammo, do not carry a fire arm in the same vehicle. If you absolutely have to, then make sure the firearms are not with in arms reach, and the ammo is stored separately.

b) If at all possible, bypass Illinois....there is truthfully almost no way to transport a firearm legally in Illinois.

Yep have heard that before and don't pick up anyone and let them ride with you if they have been convicted of any felony .

Cruise control is my friend. At my age, I am happy to stay at the speed limit in the slow lane and have the cruise control on.

Thanks for the info on Illinois, will avoid that one. (This is the kind of info I need, that seems to be hard to find.)

I am packing much of the boxes but not all. Don't want to get the movers in trouble, so will have the Ammo in the Element with me. And have already said the Movers will be moving the unloaded and safety locked firearms.

I told my husband about stashing the ammo all over the house but being a guy......
Now that we are getting ready to move, have it all in one place. Sorry to hear your house burned down Patt.

Got pulled over a couple of weeks ago at a "roadside checkpoint" of BORDER PATROL and local cops 100 miles into NY away from the border.

I was riding with my boss, coming back from Montreal. The border patrol guy just opened the back door of the van. It was locked because the van locks when you put it in drive. My boss unlocked it and the guy opened it up and began looking around.

It really frosted me, since it's illegal, but do you put up the fight/argument and expect to be detained for 48 hours? No, you just take it because you want to get home by 1130 PM that night and have a couple hundred of miles to go.

How much you talking about? Some people think 1000 rounds is a lot.
Transporting ammo should not be an issue, I would transport the guns and the ammo in a separate vehicle.

If you do have to much and want to drop off some in Ohio, let me know

Some of the more pro-active nanny states might be stopping and searching for illegal fireworks this time of year. I've heard of that in years past happening back east.

alot of states will check any moving vans and commercial vehicles. Not many stop and inspect all regular vehicles although "random" inspections maybe done.

I remember when I moved out of FL they climbed all over my stuff in my U-Haul on their inspection for illegal fruit.

I second the idea of bypassing CA ,DC and IL, probably would be ok but better to be safe than sorry.

100 pounds of ammunition? Heck I had far more than that before the great Wisconsin hurricane of 2008 came through. Im lost all my guns and ammunition then. Yep, worst thing I have ever seen. Who would expected a hurricane in inland Wisconsin? Anyways, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Seriously, keep it out of site, behave yourself, and your trip should be trouble free.
