I've used it around my cats and dogs for years. Of course never *on* anything that they find interesting, but still, they've never even looked at it.
I hang containers of it from my barn rafters. I've sprinkled it in my windowsills in the house(no, I DO NOT have children!!), on top of the fridge, and on the floor of my milkroom. Then after its done its job, I sweep it and the zillion dead flies up and burn them all.

We are using these . I put one on the front deck and one out back by the garbage cans . Catches lots of flies . Stinks like crazy but is working really well . http://www.rescue.com/products/fly.asp
I bought them at Walmart and have seen them at Ace Hardware .

Sometimes I think that attitudes like that is what keeps you safe!! I am paranoid as all heck about my critters getting into poison. Might be from working at the vet and see the tragedies first hand. So I did get some of those granuals and sprinkled them in hidden/not able to reach/nobody goes there areas. Within 1/2 hour...a chicken finds some, knocks it over and starts pecking at it. Go to get a broom and come upon one of the containers I put it in laying in the grass. I have no clue who or how. I also have the same problem with bleach. I was scrubbing a bucket with some bleach in the water. Dumped it in the gravel on some weeds...Joey (horse) comes right up out of nowhere and starts licking it. Chase him away, turn around...one of the cats is licking it !! Not that it would kill them but jeepers! The only time that Rocky (dog) has taken a drink out of the toilet is when I had bleach in it and left it for a second to go get a rag. I guess it all has to do with the universal law "what you resist, persists" UGH!!

We just replaced a bunch of windows and a couple of doors and were invaded by flys in the process so this is a timely thread. We had purchased a bug zapper but that is worthless againt flys apparently. We will have to try the Quick Bayte and the Rescue fly traps (we arent far from the Orschleins in Marshfield).

We do have a couple of those hand held tennis raquet looking battery operated zappers that are fun when your sitting on the back deck but its like trying to hold a coffee cup over your leaky roof to stop the rain!

salmonslayer, they have that stuff at Fisher Feeds too, which is closer (and cheaper) than going to Marshfield. Its on Hwy 38, 4 miles west of Hartville. They generally have the better prices on feed too. & carry plumbing supplies, etc. You should check it out. I bet they have it at the MFA in GS too.

I also use fly predators and Quickbayte strips. I have used the granuals but I'm too paranoid about them getting eaten by the chickens/goats/dogs/cats.
I did this today - I hope it helps.

We had flys all over the window on the side door facing west. Not the typical house fly...a little smaller (teenagers maybe?) I use this door to let the dogs in and out and it was driving me crazy. Put up the water bag and they are gone.
I couldn't remember if it was pennies or dimes so I put some of each in.

I've always heard to use pennies. And I need to put some up in the garage. Hadn't even thought about them this year and we've had a plague of flies. You can't find fly strips anywhere around here this year...they stay bought out.

Well certainly a few things to try. I don't think the chickens and cows will mind the stink of the Rescue much. I can hang the one for the chickens in the coop by the window because they are always open.
Last year we had 2 sides of our house nearly covered with those dang ol' flies.
Some even bit you coming and going! Was no fun! Now I can't figure out just what the *buzz* is all about and what the big deal is for them this year just like any other year!
Will this Rescue thing also attract other flying bugs?
I'm checking orschlin's when I am there tomorrow for both the Rescue and the Quikbayt
