My pickup is around $80.00/yr and inspection is free at the state facilities, good for two years.

You can go to a private inspection facility and pay about $85.00 for the same two year inspection sticker. Some do this when they know the people running the private inspection and have some minor issues that the state guyw would fail...

New cars get 4 yrs b/4 they have to be inspected.

Problem is they keep raising all the related fees. used to be $4.00 for the title & $20.00 w/ a lien now they are $45 & $60...Transfer used to be $5.00 now it's $25.00...It all started when one gov said she wouldn't raise taxes and all the fees started climbing. A weighmaster certification was $10.00 a year for a three year and it jumped to $100.00 a year...

Regular PU tags in WI are $85, as I just renewed mine. on a pick up that I would be lucky to get 300 bucks for~! It is soooo rusted and 300,000 miles on it.

i'm stunned at what so many of you are paying the state for license plates. it must be a significant part of the state budget.

on the flip side, we pay around 39 cents of every gallon of gas into a dedicated state tax for new roads. it's why tn is first in the country for good roads and 49th in education. it's really really backwards.

Just feel sorry for those folks that have no top end on their plates.
None what so ever. Just 1% the Value of the vehicle,,, Bar None~!
--My 7 year old Suburban in AZ. cost me 130 bucks and another 20 bucks for emission testing.
Got back here to WI and the same car, was at that time 45 dollars and no emission testing~!

When we moved here to MI the plates cost different based on the new retail value of the vehicle. I had trouble following that.....um, I bought mine used..........doesn't matter ... the cost of the plates is based on the sticker price when new........yuck

Yeah Illinois, our prices started to go up when this "Illinois First" plan was pushed, jacking our fees up to $79 for a renewed registration, now they are $99 dollars.

What a joke, at least we don't have stupid inspections.

You would if you lived in some parts of ILL.
Just like WI. some parts of the State do have emission testing,
same thing with AZ. only the larger cities and metro areas have vehicle testing, but they do test.

This yr. it was only $148 for 2 vehicles. A Montana van (older) and an older toyota. Half price from southern Ont., (I just moved North!) Also don't have E-tests up here either, that I think was about $40 per. Now next year I'm due to have my drivers licence renewed, that costs more again but I'm not sure how much..... What is cheaper in some things is more in some other things - we make up for it in the cost of bread and dairy !!!

'95 F150 4WD $87
'94 Bonneville $102

No inspections

This year I will get farm tags for the truck (it is used mainly for getting feed and the like) which will drop the tag price to $25.

Here in SC, the registration fee for a vehicle, paid to the DMV, is $20 every two years per vehicle, and no inspection is required.

Personal property taxes, which must be paid before a tag (new or renewal) will be issued, are due every year and vary according to age and mileage but ours are about $200 a year for two vehicles, a 1997 GMC Sonoma and a 2006 GMC Envoy.

DH's 2003 Chevy Pickup registration was $81, my mini-van was $36. Annual inspection was $20 ($18 labor plus $2 for sticker) and $40 for emissions inspection (plus another sticker). Emissions inspection is only in certain counties.
I deliberately used past tense referring to costs because Pennsylvania is one of the states in a budget crisis and Harrisburg is talking about raising fees.

Nobody mentioned a "wheel tax". Our particular county has a $30 one while the neighboring county does not. It was a total of $108 for two vehicles. No inspection.

$248 for a 1995 Ram 2500- that includes property tax. And then the State can't figure out why so many people do not renew properly.
