Our upright freezer has been on the carport for about 5 years now and we have never had a problem with it. Of course, I don't use that many bottles of frozen water in it, but I am in it most every day at least once or twice. I doubt being on the carport is a major issue here.

I think it was because it was outside.
I just lost my beer fridge on the back porch last week.
I'm still not over it and prefer not to talk about it anymore.

You might be a redneck if...

you keep a beer fridge on your porch.

Freezer on the porch

Hi BamaSuzy remember me. I have two freezers in my shop that has no heat or cooling. One is an upright over 30 years old and the other is a chest freezer over 15 years old. Never a problem but they are not self defrosting. I have heard that you can not put self defrosting refergerators or freezers where it is below freezing. bottles of frozen water is not the problem. How would a freezer know what it was freezing. We freeze bottles of water several a day for us not rabbits no problem. David

Freezers are made to handle going on and off, open and closed. I also freeze water. Another thing you can do for your rabbits is to build a second roof over the roof they have now, with a space between the 2. Atleast 10" apart.

They were not in little cages then. They were free to dig burrows, get out of the sun, etc.

I keep big frozen water bottles, milk jugs, big gatorade bottles, etc. in the frdge freezer in the garage. Never has seem to bother my freezer in that fridge. I also keep bags of fish covered in water in our deep freeze thats in the garage as DH fishes alot & doesn't bother that freezer either.

I think your hubby is trying to pull your leg.
Sure wish we'd get some of your hot weather here, my frozen Rabbit bottles have been in the freezer more than in there hutches this year so far.

Maybe the freezer inquestion is a newer model? There is a growing theme here of people with really old fridges and freezers that seem to have no problem. Maybe the real issue is newer, cheaply made models are unable to withstand being in very warm areas...

Not only was my beer hording efforts destroyed, my record breaking Swede drake testicles were ruined.

I planned on retiring on those bad boys when I figured out how to do it.

BAMASUZY just my two cents but I think that you need to look into more airflow over the freezers condenser coils. The coils dissipate the heat from the compressor.
If there is dirt, dust, debris of any kind covering/blocking the coils from getting cooled they will loose efficiency and the compressor will run much longer to do the job and possibly over heat. Also if the coils are in direct sun their efficiency will be lessened. Making sure the coils are clear of blockage will extend the life of the unit by years. When you get a new freezer have your partner or a HVAC technician install a small computer constant duty type fan so as to blow air over the coils. These fans can be installed on the compressor feed wires so it will run only when the compressor does. This simple addition will add life and efficiency to your freeze by a magnitude of ten. Within weeks the fan will pay for itself by lessening your electric bill and making the freezer more thermally efficient. I also think that most non-commercial freezers weren’t designed to be out side. If you were to apply insulation like that pink foam board to the door, sides, and top of the freezer this would also add to the efficiency and life of the freezer

These are just my opinions hope they help.

Are you telling me there are folks that don't have a beer fridge on the porch? That can't be true.
