I like to hang dry the laundry when the weather allows.

In the past, I had no choice but to hang dry in the house, with the small house and the amount of clothing my family went through.... Could get very crowded.

I found if you put a very small amount of white vinegar in the wash and double rinsed your clothes, they were no where near as stiff.

I'll try the vinegar in the rinse and see if it works, Shari! Crunchy towels are one of the downsides of line drying but we don't have a mechanical dryer so that's what we do. We're off grid but we have solar and a generator so we could run a propane dryer, I suppose. Cost for the propane, though, and the wind is free. Our house is up on "post & pier" foundation so we hang the laundry under the house. The wind blows through and dries the laundry even if it's raining outside, I haven't a clue as to how that works but that is works is enough for me.

I was raised the exact same way beaglebiz!

Hanging clothes on the line is probably my favorite household chore. Nowadays I do toss the dried clothes in the dryer for a few minutes with the dryer on air to "dehair" them since we have so many dogs and cats in the house.

Line dry year round. We have a double line in our 3 season room that I use mid-April to mid-October. Then the 2 drying racks get moved to the basement where I have 3 lines in our storage room next to the furnace for the rest of the year. About 90% of our laundry dries on lines/racks.

I line dry everything except a few knit tops. Outside in warm weather; I have 5 lines in the basement for drying in colder weather. In the winter, it takes about 36 hours for things to dry in the basement if the lines are full. Have to do wash every other day to keep up with the drying schedule.
