at the very least, they are stainless, and stainless scrap prices are pretty good I hear.

Flatten them out (or just use the lids?) and use them as waffle boards for offroading?

Ya'll are making my hungry with all the great suggestions for cooking with these!

Since it is just me and DH most of the time I'm thinking of having DH cut one in half to make a roasting box with one half then a veggie wash tray with the other half.

Still undecided for the other one...although I do like Harry Chickpea's idea for a light...

"stick some translucent plastic and a shop light behind and you have a cool industrial looking light. glue the marbles in place and back light for an even cooler looking light."

I was wondering if they are galvanized? if so, you may want to check to see if it is safe to cook food on them.

I like the onion and garlic storage idea. If you had a bunch of these you could mount the lid to the box on hinges (the kind that will hold the lid open while you add stuff to the box would be great) and hang the box on the wall of your garage or root cellar, (hall way, where ever) so that you can lift the lid and drop your garlic and onions in. Every once in a while you could stir up the contents to keep them from getting moldy.

If you had more of these than you need for storing the onions, you could do basically the same thing, but put a piece of mdf or tin in the bottom and put other stuff in. You could also have one next to a washing station for putting sponges, scrub brushes, etc in to drain dry.

Put it under the bed and store cans or shoes in it. I like the design because you could vacuum right through the holes to keep the dust down.
