Yes, acid mine drainage and mine subsidence are a huge issues in PA. I will have to be careful of that. What are the mining counties of Eastern Ohio? Farming counties?

Aren't most of America's rural areas economically depressed? I realize that there will be some negatives in a move to a more rural area. It will be worth it.

Eastern Ohio is known for it's yellow clay ( Roseville/McCoy/ Robinson Ransbottom, Hull, Cambridge ...pottery!!!) We have mostly yellow clay here in Meigs Co. with some red clay too.
