Our house is very tiny and our barn is a converted shop from when our place was strip mined. Because it's a rural area, even though our place is rural, our taxes are about $2,900 this year. Hubby will go talk to the county because they didn't give us the senior discount that we should have had.
Wow! I pay about $600/year for property taxes for a 4 bedroom house in Las Vegas. The tax bill seems to be independent of property value, since 3 years ago this house was worth about 4 times what it is today and the taxes were the same (to the penny). If property values aren't tied to taxes any longer, I'm wondering why we still need an assessor.
