Ok thanks for the update. Costs a lot to move in a log skidder. Usually they are over width and here in Pa. costs $100 for the permit plus actual cost to move in. If you have a neighbor with a big four wheel drive tractor at least 50 hp or more then he should be able to skid them . I timbered about 4 log truck loads about 7 years ago and hired the farmer next door to skid them .... it was winter and he was glad to make the extra cash. If you can get them to a location where a log truck knuckle boom can reach them then you can sell. But you will not have a full load of logs and they will charge by the hour or by mileage ..... so makes the deal less profitable ..... but if sawmill is close may not cost much to have them hauled.

Another option ..... don't worry about getting them out .... just get them appraised and make the neighbor pay for them .... then give him a week to remove them .... same with the fire wood. You would need to be concerned about liability though cause the rascal will not be insured.

Or could just make him pay and let them rot if nothing else !

OK next. Called the county forester and they said we have to hire a private state forester, and that they have some listed on their website. This is getting to be quite the runaround.
We will probably get them appraised and make him pay. We didnt ask for this trouble and we arent going out of our way for this situation is the way we look at it. Unfortunatelythe man that came out is listed on their website as the only one that has a portable sawmill and they didnt even have one. I guess we'll try another one, and hopefully they dont come out in slacks and dress shoes

"Hire" a "private" "State" forester? Not to be mean... but I'm confused. How can a State forester be private and charge for the same services he provides for the State?

Not you, but that sounds a little odd to me... You shouldn't have to pay for that service. I thought that was what we paid taxes for...?

Ya I agree. A runaround.

This is who we called. Specifically the Middlefield number thats 10 minutes away. Is this the government body that is the correct one?

I guess it was worded wrong. They said for what we need, a written value, we would have to call and hire a private company. They have a list on their website. I cant even find the list again. The website is hard to navigate.

I think you have the right organization but am surprised you would have to pay someone to estimate the illegal cutting and theft of your property. Theft is theft and should be investigated like any other theft and not have to pay for it.
You may want to start over and call the toll free # and maybe talk to someone different . Something doesn't sound right here.
Scroll down the page on the left for the toll free tele. number.

After reading the following article about timber trespass in KY and other states, there me be some problems and costs associated with prosecuting timber thieves or getting reimbursed for illegally cut wood depending on the state you live in.
Hope you prevail without too much trouble, this thievery just ain't right .
