Here, the dumpster contract is by weight. Various and sundry folks dumping their garbage in the dumpster costs the businesses more.

Which is why you'll find the dumpster behind my store locked. If people come in and ask nicely, I'll let them plop their camping trash bag in there. Everybody else can pay their own garbage bills.

Depending on what you need to dump, sometimes you can find a new home for still usable items on Freecycle. I recently cleaned out the basement and garage and posted all my 'junk' on freecycle. I got rid of everything, including old cans of paint that the garbage co. wanted me to pay extra for. The folks that picked all that stuff up where taking it to their church for people who have no extra cash to buy stuff.

I have no qualms about cleaning out the stuff in my car and putting it in the trash can outside the gas station or supermarket...but I don't have more than a small plastic bag at a time. I never thought about the consequences of putting anything with my name and address on it though...good idea to burn that stuff at home in the fire pit!

Just had another thought upon rising - a school dumpster was mentioned, and considering all that has been said, I realized that I am actually forced to pay for these schools against my will. I therefore have rights to the dumpsters.

No, you don't. What you want to do, regardless of where, is illegal. The people with the dumpster pay for the service. You intend to steal that service. You can justify all you want, but the simple fact is you are a thief if you go through with this.

I agree completely wth Kumquat...... Momma always told me that the true test of a man's character is what he does when he thinks nobody is looking.

(And there's always somebody looking....)

Just burn it all in your grill. Or open the boxes in the store parking lot and dump the detritus in their trash cans.

Lots of hysterical mom's saying thier kids would be scarred for life, etc, etc, because they didn't KNOW it was just deer remains when they saw it....

I bet there was a fuss! Several yrs ago, a battered wife in Central IL killed her hubby and spread him around town, wrapped in black garbage bags and deposited in dumpsters that were not her own

I like this reasoning..no need to buy a truck either..just go and use the schools maintenance truck. Heck, if your close enough just take an extension cord and plug in..no need to pay for your own electricity.....

Your either being tongue in cheek or your just a strange dude; either way its entertaining!

Quote "then what's the problem?"

The 'problem' is that you are using a service YOU HAVE NOT PAID FOR.

How about you give me some of your food? I didn't pay for it but then you'll likely toss out some of it at some point, so what's the problem with giving some to me? Or some of the gasoline out of your car? Or some of your medicine? How about letting me stay in your home for a while? You're not going to use all those rooms all the time so there shouldn't be a problem with letting me stay there, right?

Ahhhh, so you want to dump in the dumpster. Well, the best policy is to just ask. I'm allowed to dump at a buddie's family's business dumpster on the night before the weekly pickup so long as there is room. If you ask around and are honest about it, you'll likely find somebody willing to help you out. But just as I wouldn't take without asking, I wouldn't dump without asking either.

Dumpster diving is NOT always legal. Most dumpsters are located on private property. Parking lots are most often private property. There are certainly areas where dumpster diving is specifically prohibited. I don't get the Yeah So there. I wasn't trying to be rude. I was pointing out that people who don't want to do wrong should check the legality of all their activities.

I agree with this 100%.

In Indiana, dumping your trash in other people's dumpsters can easily cause you to be arrested and sent to jail. It is a pretty big problem, and the main reason that nearly all dumpsters are locked around here.

If you are caught illegally dumping, whether it is one bag or a large couch, the police will hunt you down, and arrest you for it, and rightfully so.

One thing that kills me with people who illegally dump is that they want to make their problem (trash) someone else's, and they don't care who pays the bill.

Joshie, the "yeah, so there" should have been followed by a . I was poking fun.

And as I said, always ask before taking, even if it is on the curb.

It is stealing to throw your trash into someone's dumpster without permission, therefore, the activity is not only criminal, but highly unethical.

Either pay for a trash service, dig a hole and bury it on your own property, or ask a friend to let you dump it with their trash and pay them.

SHeesh. Dumping and making someone else pay for it is just plain wrong.

No, it's more than that.

It's bad and wrong.

It's badong.

If you have to sneak around to get something done, it is probably wrong to do so.

What you're asking to do is "theft of service" - plain and simple.

All it will take is someone to see you or a camera at the scene you didn't know about, and you will get a visit by the police and be charged with theft of service.

If you make the garbage, then pay to dispose of it yourself.

can I get a list of ethical criminal activitys please?

its a real pain when someone fills your dumpster in the middle of the week and you either have to call for a P/U (wich costs) or limp through the week not able to take it out till its empty.

one job was in a store in a plaza and the dumpster was shared between stores, so the employee dumping was a issue there. as normal waste from the stores was about all the dumpster would take.

I know a lot of buisness owners, can even run a tab in lot of places (no credit apps). so all I have to do is ask , they usually just want to make sure they get to P/U day. so the dumpster will be unlocked on that day after buisness hours and I can make use of any unused space.
with permission.

The school people with these dumpsters pay for said dumpsters with money that was stolen from me. How come nobody here is against people stealing from me, but rage against me for supposedly stealing from others?
