Molly and McGee - Barn Owl Box - live video feed

This is a wonderful ustream video of a Barn Owl (Molly) who is setting on 5 eggs due to hatch soon. At times you can see her DH (McGee) visit her and bring her things to eat - she is working on a rat today.

That is a great video. I love barn owls, they are one of my favorite birds for artwork, such interesting faces.

Pretty cool. I guess the eggs will be hatching in a day or so. Thanks for the link.

Ravenlost 03/20/10 04:19 PM

Thanks! Now I have live streams of the owl, a bear and her cubs and an eagle!

When I get a broody chicken, I wonder if I could get enough $ selling ads to upgrade my hughesnet bandwidth :icecream:

Good lord, she's eating a rat. I don't think I can watch anymore.

JasoninMN 03/20/10 08:08 PM

This is too cool! She is eating a rat right now.

Ravenlost 03/21/10 02:05 AM

Drats, I missed dinner!

JasoninMN 03/21/10 02:06 AM

She just got another rat not too long ago. This is the most entertaining camera I have been watching so far!

sooo awesome. now i can go from her to dillie deer. i so very much miss the owl when i moved. it was so comforting to hear that 'whooooo'.

HorseFeatherz 03/21/10 10:17 PM

The first owlet has hatched. It's name is Max.

Wolf mom 03/22/10 01:20 AM

Shhhh, Molly's sleeping.

Linda J 03/22/10 06:01 PM

It's interesting, my broody hen just hatched out 4 chicks since yesterday. They all have down and can find the water and food, but a wild baby owl doesn't have any covering and has to be fed. Just thinking out loud.

Janis Sauncy 03/22/10 06:05 PM

Lots of different birds have to be fed regurgitated food by the parents: pigeons, cockatiels, etc.

I raised a baby Stellar jay on baby food (human) and a syringe.

I am hooked!
That little owl is addicting. "Owlaholics", and I am one of them.

Janis Sauncy 03/23/10 01:45 PM

I'm enjoying following this, too, but does anyone else find the live chat feature distracting.....and kind of annoying?

Also, has anyone here seen McGee yet? I guess when he shows up, he's in and out of there pretty quickly and I still haven't seen him.

sorcerer 03/23/10 01:54 PM

Just checked out Molly - too cool!

Janis - yes I find the chat annoying too. I just put it on full screen and it hides the chat.

I didn't think of that. Thanks!

People say there are no stupid questions ----- They have never read the chat about the owls!!

Mcgee usually comes to the nest with food around 7:30-8:00 California time. Last night right around 7:30 Molly let out a series of calls and he called back.

HorseFeatherz 03/24/10 10:11 AM

WOOT - another owlet - hatched last night at 6:47 pm PST.

Mcgee comes every night, starting at about 7:30 PST for a bonding moment then he usually starts bringing food. Last night he brought a rabbit, then a gopher, then two different rodents.

It is incredible to me the amount of rodents that barn owls eat - fantastic birds!

Lots of school are watching, which I think is wonderful.
