I have attended several of these parties so my suggestions are based on my own experiences....the gifts are similar to the wedding gifts, but are often less formal than registered china or dinnerware. Some good ideas are a picnic basket filled with a tablecloth, napkins, champagne glasses, etc., his and her bath towels, personal massagers (not X-rated because they will be opened in mixed company), or a tree to plant in their yard.
The dress code for men is slacks and a polo or button down shirt, and women should wear a dress or skirt. Not as formal as for the wedding, but probably not jeans.
It is better to dress nicely just in case the hostess is planning a sit down meal.
Have fun!!!

Sounds somewhat like a Shiveree, only J&J is held before the wedding, where the S is held after. Only people dont bring gifts at a Shiveree. They raise h el l, fire guns, bang on tubs ect, till the bride and groom come out and give them something to eat and drink. While alla this is proceeding, theyll either cut the slats onna bed nearly into, or spread sawdust on the sheets, or udder things worse. I was supposed to get Shivereed when I got first married, but I lived on a dirt road, and it rained for a week or more, and it took another week for the roads to dry up. By that time I was old hat.

I think a gift of a smallish laundry basket with extension cords, hammer, picture hanging stuff, a flat head and phillips screwdriver, dish cloths, paring knife, batteries and small flashlight and other similar things to fill the basket as full and as $$ as you wish.

I've given a laundry basket full of toilet tissue, paper towels, kleenex, ziplock bags, trash bags, and other household items. The couples I gave this to were THRILLED because it was stuff they would be sure to use, that they had forgotten they would need to set up house.

When I got married a friend gave me a bunch of assorted spices for the kitchen to "spice up my life." It was one of my favorite gifts.
