Yes...we line are inside garbage cans with the plastic garbage bags...white or black. It just gets burned along with the garbage. It depends on the wind on how much or when we burn. We do burn more often in the summer because of the smell. We just set our full bag out on the porch and it eventually makes it's way to the burn pit. I would guess we burn every week in the summer and every 2 weeks in the winter...at the most. When we do burn, we go around and gather all the garbage and throw it on there...like from the bathrooms and stuff.
We wait for as little wind as possible coming from the north so the smoke goes away from our house. We don't have any neighbors to worry about...but if you do, you should keep the wind in mind.

The best burn container we've ever had is an old 275 gallon furnace oil tank like you see near some houses. I cut a square hole in one end about half way between the top and bottom. It keeps the ashes dry, and caused everything to burn completly up. I only have to take out ashes about twice per year. I use a long handled shovel to reach in to clean it out.
It will not rust as much if you put a little roof over it keeping the rain off the drum. If your drum doesn't come with legs, just set it on some concrete blocks.

I burn. I try to burn on days when my Mennonite neighbors don't have laundry out which is a challenge since it is almost everyday. I just wait until they take the laundry in usually late afternoon. The non burnables go to a friend that has pick up.

I toss anything organic (except paper) out of sight under the trees to rot into the soil. Recycle whatever can be recycled and everything else goes in garbage cans for the semi-annual trip to the landfill. It costs about $30 for 2 trips.

2 trips a year, pretty impressive. I thought my 1 bag every 2 weeks was low. I take these are pickup truck loads?

We use an old barrel with vent holes in it to burn. Must have a burn permit from the local fire warden. But these are issued yearly so it's not a big hassle.
Most food scraps go to the chickens and dogs.
Anything else I haul to work and put in the dumpster there.

We take ours to the local trash/recycle center that is about 5 miles away. They do not have pick up here I am told because of the bears. It is all included in our taxes so is not that bad. They will take anything besides building waste such as lumber scraps and such.
I still have seen people burning even when they are paying for it anyway. Our neighbor told us the people we got this place from burned theirs. They also left stuff you can not burn in the woods behind the place (it is Ocala NF) that I am still cleaning up as I go.

I know it's off topic, but I am impressed that you are such a considerate neighbor. I know some who, if seeing us out used to start burning especially if I put out laundry.

I too thought that was really considerate of them.
