I gather you are asking about the distiller and not the water.
You don't need to do anything other than refill it. After a number of times you'll see lime and dirt building up in the bottom of the boiler. Swish that out with a scrubby and a rinse until it starts to annoy you, then remove the top condenser section, put in about two cups of vinegar, heat it just to boiling, cover with an old plate, and let it sit for a few hours. Swish the vinegar around with a brush every once in a while if you want to speed the de-liming process. Pour out the vinegar and lime, rinse, and you are back in business. I do this about every couple of months, maybe three months.
As far as the carafe that holds the distilled water, it is almost impossible to get it cleaner than it is by virtue of its holding the distilled water. If I see a little carbon dust from the post filter sticking to it, I'll clean it. Otherwise it goes for months without needing to be cleaned.
Which reminds me - cleaning products - the dissolved minerals in tap water will work against a lot of the chemicals (natural or manmade) in cleaning products. Using distilled water allows you to stretch a lot of them and dilute them without having them significantly degrade over time.
