We feed our dogs Canidae kibble, it's about $40 for 35lbs and one bag lasts us a little over a month for one 30lb and one 40lb dog. They eat considerably less and poop less with this food than with cheaper food. I believe it about makes up for the cost difference, but I have not actually measured/calculated it.

we have 2 great pyrenees dogs which eat a bit more than the average dog. I am in New Brunswick so I don't know if this is available to you but we feed canine plus lifetime. Out of Ontario I think.

nutreco-pet.ca

i think it is $37 for a 15kg bag and worth every penny for our large breed dogs. anything cheaper quzality and we have to feed 2-3 times as much to provide adequate nutrition.

corn free, wheat free, by product free. good stuff, check it out.

For anyone planning to make their own pet food using foods grown on the farm...Make sure that you are providing all of the trace minerals and vitamins that they need. It isn't as simple as just mixing up some of your home grown chicken and veggies. Also, if you plan to raise all of the meat that you use to feed your animals, it adds significantly to the amount of animals that you will need to have unless you happen to raise larger animals like cows and pigs.

I once did the math to figure out how many chickens I would need to have if TSHTF and my inlaws all had to come stay with us. (DH has 12 siblings and they all have children!) I realized that I was not willing to try to raise enough birds to sustain them all. They had better start prepping...
