How about that prisoner about 10 years back who was transferred to another facility and a 22 mag mini revolver and handcuff key turned up on the cavity search during his entrance exam.

My wife worked in the Prison Hospital here.I didn't like it one bit.Too much Bad STD's in the blood.Plus the Guys would pull stupid stuff.

My Brother sued Texas for treatment he got while in Prison there.Seems the Guards had them cuffed and let Dogs bite them just for fun.Stupid Guards had it all on Camrea.

We have several prisons in this area. Several of my wife's family worked as CO's, although most are retired now.

My advice? Get on with the state, get some experience, and then (if you are young enough) tryt to get on with the Feds. The Feds pay better and there is more chance for advancement.

Hi! I work for TDCJ also, in the Payroll office. This is a good agency, but like any workplace, it can have ups and downs. My great grandfather was a field boss at the Eastham unit, my grandmother was a counselor at the Goree unit when it was a women's facility, my husband works in transportation and my son works at the Ellis unit.

I can tell you that with over 40,000 employees, the money is fairly good and the benefits are too. The recruiter is not going to try to sell you anything, so just go and listen, take the test and do the interview. You don't have to sign up for anything you don't want! Good luck!

It is good you are getting opinions.

Sometimes one just has to put food on the table till something better comes along..... whether the job sucks or not.

Or, you could just get divorced, live with your spouse and kids except when the social services people visit, and collect food stamps, adc, wick, and various other programs..... of course you would not be allowed to own much..... but you can lease a Maserati.

My father worked at San Quentin for 35 years and I was raised on the reservation and my DH worked there for 5 years. I can only say looking out the window every night to see if the green light was on or the red light. Red light bad. We lost many friends being killed in riots and the San Quentin Seven ect. I have no idea how things are today, but be careful and know you are in danger at all times. But my father made a good life for us, but the DH couldn't handle it.

[QUOTE=haypoint;4247382Do you know how prisoners girlfriends smuggle in drugs?[/QUOTE]

Inside feminine products they are wearing. That's my thought...I can't imagine a guard asking a woman to remove them and inspect them. Or in the little gel packets that come in the Wonderbra??? What about a bun in my hair with a small drug bag in it? Would a guard require me to take down my hair?
Wow, I would make a great prisoner girlfriend, huh???

Yes, and how inmates do the transfer and carry them back to their cells. "

Well I'm not sure but I can take a wild guess anyhow the recruiter told me guards don't do cavity searches they just escort them to the infirmary for further action.

I've worked for years in super max prisons and state prisons in PA and ALabama..IMHO they're the safest places to work..why? Because where else can you be where if a nutty person decides to attack you, over 50 people and a few snarling dogs will be there to help you in less than 2 minutes? I was never threatened..it was my own experience that more than 90% of inmates are there because they did some very stupid things..the other 10% are simply evil people who need to never again walk the streets. None the less, I never turned my back on any inmate..ever.

I worked in Medical..I found the majority of CO's to be regular folks trying to do their jobs..and a few idiots who loved the power trip..just as in any job

in colorado we are not allowed to do "cavity" searches. that should be a hint as to where the contraband goes. the worst job is the dry cell watch, not only do you have to watch an almost naked prisoner, you have to search what gets left in the bucket when they go. i'm glad i'm far enough up the food chain at work that i can pass that job onto the new fish.
