It's still coming down like mad, I think the car's just as covered as it was before we left - I'm going to be shocked if we don't have a foot by morning. Fortunately our new milk goat knows the way to the milking stanchion by heart (there's grain there, after all!) so I just have to get her out the gate & let her go. Of course, then she doesn't want to go back outside (after all, snow could be wet, and the three that I have seem to be hydrophobic - repel water ) but at least it's downhill at that point.

We might head into Springfield tomorrow for the Missouri Restoration Tour at the Guilloiz (@ 6 or 7ish) from the stuff the Well Fed Neighbor Alliance is putting together, but it'll probably depend on whether the truck's working or not, or if the roads are better enough to take the car - 4 miles to the cafe's one thing, an hour drive to Springfield quite another.

Hey neighbor! It sounds like you have the same setup with your milk goats as we do. They know the way to the milking room in the barn with no problem but I have to put the lease on them to walk them back to their pen because they always get distracted. We aren't milking right now though. They're going to kid around the middle of March and we'll resume milking after that.

Be careful driving around in Springfield!

Digapony, I'm amazed you still have power!
Shepherd, thanks, the power has been on and off this morning and went out once last night. However, the northern tip of the county SE of me by 5 miles has been out of power for over 10 hours. I am on a different grid.

It started snowing again; heavy wet snow, so I'm expecting the power to go out if it continues. I measured and we've got 8 inches of snow and 1/2 ice. When the wind gusts is when the trees start snapping.

However, my electric co-op put in new lines and poles and amp'd up the grid a few years back, so with new pole construction we don't have the tree over growth. I'm worried about my trees taking down my line or falling on my house or barn... or both!

This storm was patchy. Some areas got blasted while others barely got a drop.

and.... FEMA.... lol ya right. I don't need any "government intervention"! haha

I'm going to post a couple cell phone pics I took. It sure is beautiful! I just started a big pot of bean soup and planning on enjoying the seclusion!

stay warm and safe... digApony

The white pine seem to be able to handle the weight better than the cypress. I may have to venture out and stake the cypress. I hate to lose them.

Put transfer switch in so we won't have to run cords all through the house to run freezers. And put 12 volt lights in with 4 batterys and a solar panl to keep them charged.

good deal. solar panel's are my next big project. However, I need to keep power to my barn as I have a big electric kiln for firing pottery and that will eventually be my home biz. I don't have the know how to build a high fire wood burning kiln.. (although it would be great, I've got plenty of wood)

I would luuuuv to get off the grid as much as possible.

They take too much of my money!

Its been raining and freezing over since 1am, no snow here...yet. The ground is not frozen but the trees and anything not on the ground is covered in about 1/2" of ice.
