Rose is right on the money. We have our homestead in Georgia for retirement. The house is built, and we go up a few times each year. We are lucky that my DW sister lives nearby. She looks after the place for us. Over the last couple of years I've begun to plant some trees and such so that they will get established. DW couldn't understand the concept of why I was doing these things now. She has started to see the light thankfully. I've finally gotten through to her that some thing take time to get established before they can bear fruit ect. My SIL waters things for us. My fig trees are now doing well and no longer have to be watered often. I planted a raspberry patch; DW and SIL were all upset that some of the plants died. Had to make them understand that I expected some loss, and that once a few of the plants became established that we would have more raspberries then we could ever use. Same way with the Grape vines ect. Once we are there full time, I can groom and baby the surviving plants, and they will be mature and productive. We have right at 28 acres. About a third is pasture that has been neclected for a long time. I take long walks around the property. Always carry my trusty snake stick (rake handle) and a folding saw and pair of pruning shears. I just poke around and take care of things like vines growing up in to the trees, cutting down undesirable bushes and the like. I also have a cordless black and Decker chainsaw. Sometimes take it with me and take down a few saplings also. You will be suppised at the amount of stuff you can accomplish just piddling around. Going up in March for a couple of weeks, This time I'm planning on putting in the corner posts for a couple of the pastures and pulling out some of the old barbwire along the fence rows. I'm not a young man anymore (just turned 54) and can't do a lot at one time, but you would be amazed at what I have done right by myself. I have a three ring binder with all my plans and my wish list. I'm planning on goats, maybe a couple of cows and some chickens. If I can do this anyone can . Someone please buy my house here in Miami so I can go to Ga.
