Do Moth Balls evaporate or rot?

Thanks -- I found some old panty hose and dumped the moth balls in those. We then tied a string to the panty hose and dropped the whole thing down a hole in the floor. For the crawl space where we could reach......I just put moth balls in paper cups. Thank you.
