Well maybe your soup buisiness will pick up, sure the dream job is just standing there with long line of people waiting being able to say at your whim "no soup for you"...... in your gruffest voice of course.

I like your idea of the company special, very nice.

It is a shame about your soup. Are you going to at least make a small pot, or make it and freeze it in portion sizes to reheat when it is asked for? I know that's not "super fresh" but, it'll still keep that option available for those that would love it. I personally love a good bowl of soup, but most places don't offer soups I prefer, or they're not very good at the soup making.

Another option you may consider is a "soup and half sandwhich" combo if you choose to keep your soup option. I love going to the Bob Evans here because they have a great potato soup, so I get that with a half sandwhich and it fills me up to the brim.

I'm so happy this is going well for you.

One aspect is the older people get the less they eat per meal. Portion control. Maybe I'm different but I have largely stopped going to buffets since I don't feel I get my money's worth and can't take home. Thus, I tend to restaurants where you can bring home the excess. Some I eat later, some goes to either the chickens or critters.

feedback on special" sliders to me mean really greasy things that 'slide on down' - I avoid them like the plague. If you called them mini-burgers you might get me to order. Also french fries by the pound - never ever seen them sold this way, hard to know what to expect. I'd rather see them sold by 'family size, party size, personal size' sort of descriptive language. Also would intrigue me more to know that the beef is '100% american produced, fresh never frozen' sort of language.

To get the soup trade established you might try a soup promo ' free cup of soup with every jumbo al burger' - or something like that.

My goodness..reading this thread has made me HUNGRY..LOL..
My oldest son was in the food business for many years..he used to advertise "company lunch specials" and they went over big..and that was in a very small town too

As far as soup..I went out with my oldest DD and her family the other night for supper..the menu had the option of a cup of soup or a bowl..I didn't want a large order, so I opted for a cup of potato soup ( Irish restaurant)..potatoes, a bit of onion and cheddar cheese..it was GOOD !! I agree with the previous poster about free samples of soup..1/2 cup is enough for someone to judge if they like it..and if they do, the chances are good they'll order it when they come back

Pulled pork is one of my favorites, cheepest cut best flavor if done right. If you keep serving breakfast pulled pork is great in an omlet with a little holindase sauce. Could be another use for the pork.

Seriously...its been fifteen minutes. I work night shift 11-7. I'm ready for dinner. Shouldn't you already have something on the grill for me? Don't you care about your customers?

Really, PM me. I'll buy a burger to support a member and I would bet that others here would do the same.

No sweet pickles though. Burgers have to have dill pickles.

WHERE in MIssouri? WHERE??

Tinknal, I'm so happy for you! And you are SO right about the fresh meat. If I find a place that actually makes REAL burgers, and they do the burgers right (big and meaty and with fried onions), I am a customer for life!

There was a bar/restaurant in WI we used to frequent when we had land there. Fantastic burgers! Then, new owners took over, and had those pre-pressed, dry, nasty burgers. Business fell off considerably.

Then, through one happenstance and another, the original owners returned.

And there was much rejoicing.

God bless you with great business, and may you continue to enjoy what you're doing!

I've come up with a special for the lunch bunch. Tell me what you think.

Company Lunch to-go
10 Bacon cheese burger sliders, OR 10 pulled pork sliders (or mix and match)
3 pounds of fries.
$18.00
Additional sliders, $.75
Additional fries, $1.50 per pound

Comments?
Kill the options on the special. They can order more from the menu, Im not found of "sliders" might be a regional thing. I do like white castle burgers, sliders just sound nasty.

WOW! Come down here and we'd be weekly customers with that deal! In our house it's me, DH and the 6 kids. We'd take care of that order in no time!

White Castles ARE sliders -- they are the original sliders as a matter of fact.

If your special is White Castle sized burgers then the ratio is way off imo (should be about 20 burgers to 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of fries) most guys I know eat 5-6 W.C.'s with about 1/3# of fries.

as is the price .75*10 = $7.50 and 1.50*3=$4.50... $7.50 and $4.50 = $12.00

ya know as I get older I don't want large portions of food anymore

I want a reasonable normal portion for a normal price.

I don't want a $12 cheeseburger--3/4 lbs loaded with stuff.

We have a Red Robin restaurant Tony wanted to try. WOW the cost was huge! It was close to $40 with tip for lunch...I almost fainted. No burger is that good!

Cost is important. Keep it reasonable and offer good homemade items and I can afford to eat out.

Al, once everyone finds out about the Big Al Basket you'll be a hit. There is NO good burger in Princeton, you need to go to Dalbo for that. Other than the fast food joints in town (different crowd going there), there's really only 3 places in town to eat. One is a cheap steak place (think cheap meat, not cheap price), a family style resturant that's open for breakfast and lunch only, and a Chinese buffet. Don't compete with K-Bob's for the breakfast crowd, they've been around to long to compete for their customers. Focus on that Burger basket and the Pulled pork, get the word out and you'll be a hit. I'll be in one of these days and try that burger! Sounds great!

white castle burgers are sliders as they have been known since the start, they slide on in and right on out. I like them too just not from every white castle.

Just a thought...french fries with gravy are a big deal here. People flock to a certain restaurant in Wyalusing called "the Wiser Choice" for fries with beef gravy (real home made gravy, ahhhh)
