And remember that a Good Quality Cup of coffee means a lot~!
And going to Sam's to buy it, is not the way to go.
Make sure you are getting a good Commercial Grade Coffee.

The only beverage I serve is milk. The bar takes care of the beverage trade.

Just counting the days when we have to make a trip south to the Twin Cities. The Princeton VFW is on our list of stops! I'm ordering the Big Al basket. :banana02:

We were expecting to travel to Crow Wing County today and planned to stop in Princeton but the plans have changed.

We'll get there eventually.

Tinknail, are you serving the same menu everyday or are you having specials only on certain days? I forget just what you had planned out on previous post.

When I was attending a technical college they had a Culinary Arts program. Part of the program consisted of a Bakery where they sold all the good pastry stuff at. But on Friday's they had something very special going on at the bakery. On that particular day they baked a bread that was long and narrow, much like whats used for submarine sandwiches. They would take this bread and split it open and on each half they would place on pizza sauce, two types of cheeses and either italian sausage or pepperoni slices. Then bake them till the cheese melts. Since they was the best thing on campus and they only served them on Friday's, kids would line up all the way out the door and down the sidewalk. They would only make so many, and when they sold out that was it till the next Friday. At that time it cost us $1.00 each. That was back in the late 70's. Probably worth about $2.50 - 3.00 by now.

We called them Pizza Boats and they are real easy to make. We sometimes buy all the ingredients and make them at home for a quick easy meal. Kids love them!

Congratulations! That food sounds delicious!
I worked in restaurants for years and til this day the most popular dish I have ever seen was the Mile High Meatloaf Sandwich.
That restaurant sold all kinds of foods, some fancy and some not but this was always a hit.

They put a big thick slice of texas toast on the plate, cut in half like triangles.
Then some thick slices of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and onion rings, in that order. One big pile.
Customers would order it and not realize how much food they were getting for their money.
I would bring it out to their table and their eyes would get huge. Some of them would bust out laughing because they didn't expect so much food and would make bets whether they could finish it or not.
Besides being a big meal, the food was excellent and that is what got people to come back and order it again.
They usually returned with friends and would get them to order the mile high and when it came out they would say, see, what did I tell ya?

It might be an entree you would want to offer since you already have the beef and potatoes in your stock, onion rings and gravy are easy enough too.
Good luck with it all! Glad to see someone is doing well.

I've come up with a special for the lunch bunch. Tell me what you think.

Company Lunch to-go
10 Bacon cheese burger sliders, OR 10 pulled pork sliders (or mix and match)
3 pounds of fries.
$18.00
Additional sliders, $.75
Additional fries, $1.50 per pound

Have to go roust about something in the kitchen now!

We had a little restaurant in small town near us that had the best hamburgers in the world, they GROUND their own meat! Talk about fresh. It nearly mooed.

So glad to hear you're doing well.

Not so far. It just isn't moving. Too bad since I have great soup. I've only had 3 soup orders, and it is the same customer ordering soup time after time.

With apologies to Arlo Guthrie....... "You can get anything you want, at Big Al's Restaurant"

If I have the ingredients in the kitchen, I'll make it for you.

(BTW, a chili burger with onions would be simple, given my menu)

I don't think the younger generation is use to eating soups and salads anymore. When I was growing up you was offered your choice of soup or salad as a appetizer before your meal. It wasn't thee meal, just a appetizer till you got your order. The price of the soup or salad was included in your meal, so it didn't feel like you was paying extra for the meal. Now days if you want salad, you pay extra and you walk to a salad bar and fix your own.

I love this, too. I love how you have already discovered the subtleties of this business ... how you've shown willingness to discontinue weaker items, and expand concentration on stronger items ... once again taking proactive measures to ensure your success.

You'll be alright, Tink ... alright.

Itty bitty burgers. Like 10 to a pound of beef.
