I actually MISS the smell of woodsmoke and love it when I step outside to bring in an armload of firewood and I catch the spicey scent of birch woodsmoke on the wind.
I have heated without wood and I have heated WITH wood and I much prefer to heat with wood. To me there is so much more to heating with wood than the heat it produces... there are the intangibles.

ABSOLUTELY! I don't understand why people are smelling wood smoke inside the house! ??? No one can tell we heat with wood unless someone opens the stove door without opening the chimney damper.
That is a beautiful fireplace you have there! I'm glad to see the chimney is inside the house. Is that a contraflow heater by chance?
