Haters do stop information

When I came to HT I came as a person runs a Sawmill operation consulting people on Homestead building and problem solving. I am in the middle of designing Modular Chicken Houses that will be sold across Middle TN. I haven’t posted much because of the attacks.
I honestly am in a mode that if someone asks a question I will answer but projects and photos of how to do I am leery. I will let the haters have the floor and they can succeed with their knowledge.
This isn’t winter cabin fever unless that is caught in the summer.

I have a hard time fitting in on forums. I am income farmer (small but bigger than alot)

I was on some forums where I "owned too much".....how dare I have equipment when I can use a plow by hand. The forum was more about deprivation to survive...lol...that isn't me.

A few times when I mention I will never give up my electricity people were floored. How dare I stay on grid? LOL---how dare I buy a can of Spaghetti-Os (don't ya know those will kill you)

It is so diverse what people might pick on when people post.

I am not a die hard survivalist the world is ending tomorrow.
I own equipment that sucks up diesel fuels.
I do eat crappy foods every now and then.
I do use the conveniences life has to offer.
I do want to save money, but I am not poor and do spend big money also.

I just don't like posters that are "my way or the highway" and ram their way of life down my throat, followed by links to prove I don't live right...HA HA

I guess I'm glad I don't have pig's, We get ours all cut & wrapped from out Butcher!

I always try to remember this is a public forum & just like out in public not all folks have the same manners. Most of us here are trying to help someone, answer questions for others & in General just having fun.
Try not to let others posts bother you & ignore those RUDE or mean one's. I just feel sorry for people like that. They probly don't have many friends or a good family like we have.

Good thread! I made a new year's resolution to quit reading a thread when it starts going downhill with the negativity and cutting remarks. I have better ways to spend my time.

Andreozzi,

I've been using these forums sine they were the forums for countryside mag. And I've been managing online forums for over 20 years.

First, I wanna give you some validation: yes, there are some folks here that are terribly hostile, and while they are beating you up, they tell you it's for your own good. I've been called a lot of ugly names, and the folks doing it will say that it is not an attack because, after all, I really am ___(stupid/an idiot/whatever)___.

Now for a bit of the other side: for every mean person here, there are at least ten really decent people here.

I would guess that for 95% of the threads I participate in, everything is silky smooth and I'm really glad to be here. The things you learn are excellent! The people are friendly, generous and fun! And then for that last 5%, it seems that these nasty folks travel in packs.

The last time I had a pack attack, I received lots of emails from people saying that they don't post anymore for fear of another pack attack. They lurk.

So, in a nutshell: the upsides here far outweigh the downsides. The attacks will happen. And some of the people will have a huge post count. And some of them might be moderators.

But - this isn't much different from real life. So, you make the best of it. I've been through a lot here, and I still come back. But, then again, I've been doing this so long I've developed a really thick skin.

I was born with chronic "foot in mouth" disease. I have noticed that a well meaning statement or suggestion made by me was taken wrong by another. Not sure if a wink or nod would have helped. I have never been to the pig forum so it wasn't me, thank God.
Shoot, I got in trouble for sending a Merry Christmas card to one of my Pagan friends. I didn't know it was supposed to be "Yule Tide Greetings", or did I get that wrong too? My Mama always told me that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. So I guess I am on my way.

problem is we all come from such differnt areas
never will 2 be alike and some have that "ram down the throat" mentality that it is their way or no way.....that "I much convince you and if you don't agree", you are scumbags..LOL--and then the trashing begins.

I don't know......I have seen here that I need to avoid the politics area of the forum..LOL
so much of what I read makes my skin crawl.....but hey ?

Well.......

As one who has gotten my dander up in the Politic/GF side of this site I can say that being nice is - now sing it with me - Is Hard to oooo do!

With that being said I will also go out on a limb and say that If Ht would like to see a gentler kinder and more thoughtfull kind of thread/posting here then - and this is where the messenger will be shot so find some towels -

Moderators Need to Step In by deleting posts that pointly go off topic and attact other posters for opinions that are not the norm. Pot stirring should be kept at a minimum. And if a poster doesn't want to hear from the general population with their opinion then IM or email just those who agree with the opinion.

Other than that I don't know what went on in the Pig forum. But, I would and have just put people on ignore. It's a great feature.

It seems some forums are more polite than others. I glance through alot of the forums, but for my money Countryside Families is the place to be . Especially the tightwad thread, us tightwads are so busy being frugal we don't have time to grouch! I do like this forum, Homesteading questions too, but I don't dwell if anybody's getting impolite.
At work a week ago I had a customer who was impossibly rude, loud and ignorant to me. I always say "At least I'm not married to them!"
Take care all, spring will come soon enough. Mary.

I looked and looked.

And I couldn't find any of these rude HT posters that people are talking about.

So, I made one:

Ok everyone sit down, shut up, you ain`t going anyplace. Just because I like to vent don`t mean I don`t love you`ll. I`m just kidding !!!!!!!!!!! I have seen the deal on the pig front, it gets ugly once and awhile. But isn`t the whole world becoming more like that?? Some people are just rude, and some just silly fools. I have learned to get over it hope you all do to. Maybe those parties will see this and say, wow I was an a#@. Will they forgive me? You guys have a wonderful day Marc.
