Hey SDians... did this storm come out of the direction of the prevailing winds or a different than "normal" direction?

I just ask, because I noticed that y'all DON'T have breezeways/covered entries to the houses and buildings.

Around here, in the winter, people put up tarps or plastic on their covered porches so they can open doors etc. when the snow piles like that.

We just got out. I had just busted through the last drift to get out when I saw the snowplow in my rearview mirror. I didn't need to get out today, but need to be able to get to work tomorrow. Being snowed in since Thursday was great.

Too much snow

I don't think I'd do very well in a locale with more snow. We've had rain then snow all week, barely 4" on the ground right now, but I'll be glad when it's gone. Within the last half hour, the sky has cleared and the sun is shining! My hat's off to those of you who face this year after year. As a friend of mine used to say, "Better thee than me!"

We just got dug out. But the guy who came to do it said that the gravel road out of here near impassible. He said he almost could not get here Said that if the plow doesn't come through again I'm not going to be able to get to the hwy in the morning. It sure is nice to not have to climb through snow to get to the outside critters and do the chores though...I was getting exhausted!

Official snowfall for Grandview, Mo is 13 inches! We don't typically have snow like this.
I used to live in Box Elder, SD and I can remember opening the front door to a solid wall of snow. If you are at home and have plenty of hot cocoa, there is nothing better! Traveling in it sucks big time. LOL

This was the biggest blizzard in 4 decades they are saying. 19-22" total. Our road is still snowed over.

-7F with the windchill this morning. It was 'fun' making sure critters had water and even more fun shoveling out the waist high drift to get out the front door. Still, your pics make me feel better cause we didn't get nearly as much snow as you folks! Just the normal lake effect so far in these parts. Glad to see everyone weathered the storm.
