MTD.(Murray Tractor Divison)Years ago in 1984 i sold lawn and garden tractors and have a long background with Lawn Boy, John Deer and Snapper so i'm going to tell you somethings that you may or may not know.MTD made all you cheaper Lawn Tractors back then i didnt say junk i said less expensive. The quality was the same as all the big names on there lighter stuff and about 1500 dollars less.It was a hard sell to make up the price difference as the quality was the same different paint. The Garden Tractors were a different story as they remained a great product well built but a market for them was hard to find and you are right they didn't wear out.In about 1991 MTD took over all the major players lawn tractor div. and now make All the Troy Built.Lawn Boy,John Deer lawn Div.And many more. The only Co. still hanging in there is Simplicity and they bought out Snapper. So why buy the paint MTD will do you just fine buy the horse power you need ans clean your deck and you will have a mower that will last 20 years at least, changr the oil twice a year or more.

I bought a Troy-bilt ZTR mower a couple of years ago, and it's alright for what it is. I really wanted a Grasshopper or Scag, but I bought what I could afford. It's probably a little light for the cutting I do, as I've had to replace two spindles already. I try very hard to take care of it, but I have a large area to mow, and it's pretty rough cutting in some places. A commercial grade would have been better for me, and that's what I'm getting next time.

I can also tell you that my dad bought a Troy-bilt tiller in the late 80's when Troy-bilt was still making them. You can look at Troy-bilt tillers made by MTD today, and you can see the difference in quality. They are not made NEARLY as well today as when he bought his.
