Oh, I didn't even think of that, lol! I was saying it because it was in a tree, never thought of them being hauled up there by the predator! You know, it's weird though, now that you mention it. I've lived here two years and have seen or heard deer, bear, coyotes, raccoons, possum, armadillos, tons of snakes, eagles, hawks, owls and probably lots of others I'm forgetting...but I've never seen a single rabbit out here. Wonder why that is? Hmmm....

We've got possums and gray fox north of Brainerd already.

Fisher tracks look like big mink tracks. They lope along like a big mink. I've seen fisher males that stretched out to 4' but most are around 3'. A big male mink can stretch out more than 3'.

Sorry Tink, that's not it. In this video, the fisher never makes a sound, but it looks exactly like what I saw, and the paws match the prints too! It did kind of lope when it was running also. So what is there in Oklahoma that would look exactly like this and not be a fisher?? lol I KNOW it's probably not one clear down here, but just can't figure out what else it could be.

This is a video of what it sounds like. I notice some people said it's a fox, but it doesn't match any of the fox calls I heard when I went to dedicated professional sites for calls.

I really appreciate you taking so much time to try and help me figure this out, lol.

Besides having them around the house I have trapped them for years and have never heard a fisher make any sort of noise. On the few occasions one was live in the traps they never made any noise at all. Most of the weasel family don't make much noise. When I listened to the video I think its definitely a fox calling on that video and not a fisher.

Here is a video of a baby fisher screaming at a dog. I have also heard ferrets scream when they are scared too. They sounded pretty much the same as this fisher. I think fisher are described as screaming a lot because people like to call them cats which they are not. Cats are notorious screamers.

You may have seen a big mink. They are a smaller version of a fisher. The tail is a little less full but the gait is the same. Mink can be miles from water.

Mink scream when cornered or trapped. It makes the hair on my neck stand up.

I agree about foxes sounding awful~! In fact we had a rabid one running around here (that's a story unto itself; cornered people in their own garage, attacked anyone standing in front of it, took a full grown cat under a car in front of witnesses and...err...well, wasn't pretty). Anyhow, this fox sounded even more deranged than a normal one.

I have never seen or heard of a Fisher cat, what a pretty critter!

As an avid outdoor Okie I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

Have you googled Screach Owl? You might find your answer to the screaching sound behind your house. I use to hear them all the time up and down the creek I live on. Not so much anymore since everyone has purty much cleared all the trees out next to the creek.

The sound in your walls could be a big pack rat, possum, or squirrels. They will take up residents in your house if they can find or make a entry somewhere.

Hi RH! Yeah, I tried screech owl as one of the first things, but that wasn't it either. I think Ed was right, it must be a chupacabra, lol. I'm not going to worry about it anymore, it's just annoying but not dangerous (or at least not so far!).

At one point right after I moved in two years ago, I was told by the internet installer that it looked like there was a pack rat nest. I never heard it back then, but he said he saw where it had chewed on some wires in one place. I had that fixed, the nest cleaned out and poison put out, and haven't had any problems since then. Maybe I had another one, but after putting out poison the other day I haven't heard it any more. Maybe whatever it was had a nice big meal of Just One Bite rat bait, lol.

Thanks for your help everyone, but I'm going to consider it case closed for now.

I live here in Mayes County, OK, and we have some river otters in our creek. They have the long bodied, loping gait you were talking about. I don't think we got fisher cats here, though. It could be a mink or weasle too. I did see a badger here one time, but the color wouldn't be right for one of them. I would be you have pack rats or squirells in the roof, they make a lot of noise.
