Follow a creek downstream.

Listen for traffic.

Look for a transmission tower (microwave tower) or power lines, follow the powerlines, all the transmission towers I know of have service roads to them...

Look for shelter before night fall and start a fire if you can.
If someone is looking for you, the smell of smoke goes a long way, bigger the fire the better, leaves burn easy and give off a lot of smoke.

Makes sense, you wouldn't want to wait (2) and you wouldn't want to send someone else out to get help and have them get lost or hurt in the process.
I would vote none of the above. Someone should go with you out.
I frequently hunt by my self for a week without anyone else around [by my choice]. Live is to be lived and experienced.
