between our son and us we have 10 acres, used to have 30 but sold off 20 with MIL's house..so we are down to 5 and 5..(10 between us)..i have full use of son's property as i would need..

we have between our property (on mine) a 150 x 75 pond..and the rear 5 acres is wooded. There are 3 acres of mainly field with some evergreens we have put in and some other alder and brush..and a small swamp area on that..but the rest is to gardens, lawns and 2 houses..and outbuildings..

we have a large amount of wildlife on our acerage..but we don't raise any farm animals besides our deer, bear, wild birds and small animals that are wild on the property and 4 cats.

in the future we may decide to do animals but at this point only wild animals are harvested.

good thing about that is they feed themselves..we do put in a lot of plants for the wildlife though..

I like this thread. I have enjoyed reading what everyone else is doing with their land.

I have 7 acres. I would love to have 7 more! The more land you can afford, the better. If you don't use it, you can rent it out. How much you need will depend on what you want to do. What kind of land it is will be just as important also. I would determine what/how much I could afford then prioritize what I want do with it. Then go looking. Wanting more if you can't afford it doesn't get you anywhere. Better to do the most with what you can afford in my book.

I have a heifer and steer, 12 chickens, 2 beehives. A very large garden, small orchard. I am adding a few sheep this year and maybe turkeys. I did some meat chickens last year and will repeat them this year. We have 4 acres in hay fields. I covet a 5 acre plot north of me.

We have about 8 acres all together. We have 29 chickens right now, 600 Norway Spruce trees, a smaller field that will be put to alfalfa hay next year, and then a 3 acre pasture (we're clearing up and putting in fencing for a milk cow and/or goats) and then two smaller 1/4 acre fenced paddocks (may use one for feeder pigs). Our garden is about 100x40, we have a few blackberry canes, several raspberry canes, two plum trees, 5 blueberry bushes, a few mulberry trees, and then maples in the front. We might add a turkey pen when we sell some of the spruce trees removed by a local landscaping company. We will be adding 4 apple trees and 2 cherry trees next year.

We're lucky because our neighbor behind us has 10 acres that's mostly wooded. She sold us the pasture ground, and told us to help ourselves to timber for wood heating when we get our wood stove.
