Hershey's Kisses and chocolate bars are still made in Hershey, PA. Much of their other candy is made in Mexico as of this year

There's this one too in MO if you're looking for chocolate instead of candy:

Ok that tour looks cuter! I really don't like the new Hammonds factory... the tour kinda sucks now. I liked that dingy old building where they actually let you go in right next to the tables and kettles. Ofcourse that is not very sanitary, but it was more fun.

And I see you are running away to MO too.

We last went on a tour couple years back, so I don't know what the current tour is like. When we went it was the dingy old building where we watched everything from behind a big window.

Yes, we're running to MO too! We went to our property for Thanksgiving, can't wait to move there permanently

Do a search for "Mexican candy warning". A few years ago, there were warnings about lead in candies imported from Mexico.

Here is one page on Oregon.gov titled HIGH LEVELS OF LEAD FOUND IN CANDY FROM MEXICO

I went to their site and lo & behold, they also have two manufacturing plants in Mexico. Ones in Reynosa & the other is in Linares. I am not adverse to eating candy manufactured in Mexico but found it interesting that even a company touting American made candy has facilities in Mexico.

The Piedmont Candy Co. makes delicious peppermint puffs that are made in the US. Might be tough to hang on your tree, though

Red Bird Brand sticks are very good, used to get them in NC when I lived there. Around here we get Red Brand sticks, I belive it's Helms candy co. in Bristol that makes them. I guess they're playing on the other brand name or maybe a spinoff years back. Maybe some history there to be learned about the candy business in the south.

It's not just about trust, I don't but you can. It's also about economics and jobs.

Last night, hubby and I split a candy cane he bought at the store. I commented about this thread and he laughed (he is not very concerned about things made in China nor the jobs lost to that country...sigh...). Well, we BOTH had plastic in our pieces! Yup, sure enough, made in China. He said (for the first time) he was going to read labels and not buy Chinese candy anymore!

I've seen the Bob's candy canes for sale at Rite-Aid. I will look for Red Bird and/or Piedmont Candy Company candies.

Not candy canes, but last year DH bought me a tin of Gimbal's Licorice Scottie dogs. Gimbal's Fine Candies are manufactured, according to the tin, in San Francisco. I checked out their website, http://gimbalscandy.com and they have some very tempting sweets.

We have had difficulty remembering which brand is the "good" one as they both come in the same type tubs and with similar wrappings. We sort of got used to the Bobs one but found the Red Bird recently again...this is definitely the best tasting. Now I know how to remember the difference between them. Red Bird is made in the US and has a US flag on the wrapper. Walmart carries Bobs, and Walgreens has Red Bird. Bobs has an off taste in my opinion.

Oh my, I'm discussing eating peppermint candy, and the ad above this message as I'm typing displays a plump woman in a black bikini! Is someone trying to tell me something!!
