Put a roll of tp on the shelf. Set an upside down can on top of it. You can get "fancy" by attaching a wooden knob of some kind to the bottom (now top) of the can. Drill a hole centered. Use a screw to attach the knob. (Or use an old fashioned wooden sewing thread spool. Use washers, nut, and a bolt to attach it.

If you have room on your shelf, stow a spare roll under a second can.

We were given a large square metal tin full of cookies one Christmas. We keep it in the outhouse now as it holds 4 rolls of toilet paper. (Gotta have some spares!)

Grandma and Grandpa always used a metal coffee can
You sure it was rats and not squirrels (tree rats)

I found a metal paint can at the barn and it is perfect! I like the idea of hanging a roll from wire hung from the ceiling. Next weekend when I have some help I can add a roll from the wire.

Thanks everyone! Good ideas.

Just make sure you include a paint can opener tied on a string nearby.

I'd hate to be sitting there trying to open a paint can with my teeth.

I'd hate to see the paint can opener disappear down the hole.

:-)

Could you confirm this with my wife? I only thought of it as I'd just tripped over one in the shed the otherday!

Pretty sure the rats or whatever aren't eating your toilet paper. Go find their nests and take your tissue back. It'll be all chewed up and fluffy and much softer.
