What store's sell Danner Boots? 16 years & still wearing them sounds like a deal to me, especially if they are comfortable. Do they make insulated kinds as well?

I picked up a loader for my tractor about a month ago in BF, Michigan. I stopped at a Farm and Fleet store to pick up another set of chains and a boomer. While I was there, I picked up a set of Red Wing Safety Toes ($165). I didn't even check the country of origin--last time I looked, Red Wings were made in MN. Needless to say, I was a littled POed when I stopped at my motel (down the road aways) and discovered my brand new boots were made in China--should have gone to Walmart instead.

I have seen Red wing shoe store's, I'll have to try & find one close enough to us & I will also look up the other brands mentioned here to see where they are sold or are they for online purchases only?
It would be nice to buy something American made & try to support our country.
You might also try a military surplus store and see what they have available.
Military boots are usually good quality and plentiful.

My husband bought a pair from a local shoe maker the name is Kulien, they are the best fitting boot ever, he wears them 12 to 14 hours a day and they have held up great going on four years now and still look new and are very comfortable. Now for the bad news they cost 800.00 he has had alot of nice boots and he will never buy any thing but kulien boots again

I am happy to pay the 100 to $200 for a pair of redwings or the $500 to $800 for a custom pair of boots because they are good for a lifetime of heels and half soles.

Shrek, please tell me more about those ankle braces. Sounds like something I could use.

Redwing is not made here anymore! They have the stuff made in China and shipped here.
We used to be redwing buyers till we found out they have outsourced. We havent been able to find any work boots in our area that are actually made here.
A lot of American companies now outsource labor so even if the company is here, the products are not being made here.

Read the fine print on all the labels. Heck call the company!! Call redwing!! We did.

Even American appliances like corn poppers are outsourced for the making.

Some things are 'assembled here' but thats not being 'made' here. The parts are just put together here. Thats another one that confuses American made shoppers.

We have been going nuts because when you really look, its almost impossible to find truly made in America anymore.

Was talking about that at work tonight too, River Pines. It's really a sad shame that we live in a country & can find almost nothing that is actually made & put together here in our Country with our own citizens earning the living for doing so.

I'm not giving up though. Dh is still looking & will check into the Millitary surplus places too.

ronron, I guess I shouldn't have said that the price doesn't matter becuase I know dh would never spend $800.00 on a pair of boots. For one thing we don't have that kind of money & for another I would probly have a heart attack!

The last time I drove thru Redwing Minesota...which was just a few months ago...the Redwing manufacturing plant was definitely making boots! I don't doubt that some models of Redwing boots are made overseas, but not all models are.

Whites are made in the USA. You can go to the store in Spokane Washington and watch them being made.

Nicks are made in Spokane too.

Hey Backfourty, I'm not wearing them right now as they need resoled. I have feet problems (compliments of the Corps and can never prove it) and wear out soles faster than most. I am just saying I still have them. But if you want a boot that is gonna last, you ain't gettin a better boot. Yes they have insulated boots also. Never had a pair of insulated full leather though because most of the places I wore them were in hot climates.
Yes, it's an investment when you buy these boots. You take care of them and they will take care of you and they will do it for years. It's like wearing a pair of hooves.
