Yep, it works for us.
On the other hand, we are far enough out that we don't have problems with dolts on 4 wheelers and stuff like that.

This one really hits home for me because we had a coonhound killed about a month ago. He had on a collar with my husband's name on it, and a tracking collar. He wasn't coming in when called so DH left him, which is common 95% of the time they will be where you let them out at in the morning. DH went back out to get him the next morning and he was shot dead beside the road. The Sheriff, the Game Warden and DH all said he was shot while laying down. He wasn't where he shouldn't be, DH wasn't hunting him where he shouldn't be and someone shot a dog that cost us alot of money and driving time to get.
Now, what I don't get about all this is, do y'all realize how much damage coons and possums and other critters do to land and fields? We have people call us to coon hunt on their land, or trap(we are also avid trappers) to get rid of the vermin.
We don't hunt land we aren't supposed to be on and yes before we have had a dog go on land it shouldn't be on. In MO the law states you are to go to the landowner and tell them your dog is there, if they won't let you on their land to get it, you are supposed to get the game warden and either he will go with you to get the dog or he will go get it.
We respect the laws and the landowners and thankfully, there are still enough people in this area that don't hate hunters or hunting or trappers for that matter. It IS about respect, all around and some of the posts on here have just been scary to me.
In recent history we've had two cases of dogs being shot in our county, both running hounds(coyote dogs). Both shooters were fined heavily because one just shot the dog that ran across his yard, the other said it was attacking his goats but he had no proof.
We had one dog the other night chase horses, chances are it had never seen one. He was shocked and disciplined against doing this again. We don't want them chasing cattle or other livestock anymore than the owners do.
The DH got laid off and started his own business of training coonhounds so we could make ends meet. So you can see why this is an important topic to me, that is our lively hood so if someone goes shooting our dogs, that is just the same as if your livestock was hurt.
And that's all I got to say about that

Yes, respect is the word. I do know how much damage coons, deer, coyotes and, yes, even squirrels and chipmunks do. I would have no problem with someone asking me if they could hunt my land or letting me know they were doing so nearby and maybe introduced me to their dogs before they proceeded. (I might ask for a bit of venison--you can have the rest of your kill.) As I've said, I don't shoot at any animal so I'm not in this game except I would like to feel safe on my own property or at least know what I'm facing when I head out to feed the chickens so I can be sure to wear a bunch of orange.

My land is 1/4 mile by 1 and 1/2 mile rectangle, I have no fences, and I do live here.
I only post along the road, I post it saying 'No hunting w/o owner permission'.
A neighbor does get my permission each year to take a bear.
And another neighbor does use dogs, which a few times have strayed onto my land. They leave my livestock alone, so we are fine.
Every now and again, I have seen hunters come out of the woods up right my house. The woods are thick and they get dis-oriented. A few times they will be in the woods, fire, and the shock wave is close enough that it shakes our house. I usually step outside and fire a round or two into the ground. I figure since they have no idea of how close they are to a house, maybe hearing my gun will help re-orient them.
Normally I am in favour of SSS.

I apologize for my earlier comment to you about shooting dogs,i misunderstood the coment you made.I don't sneak onto land I know is private or posted,I deer hunt my own land or county land, when running hounds if the landowner lives on the property I do seek permission first. Many of our landowners are weekend warriors or only come in the summer. The only reason this thread got me so riled up is right away people start talkin about shooting hounds.

I'm sorry, I don't think what you said was appropriate or called for, Turner Hill. I was aghast which means struck with amazement.......that people have anyone coming in and hunting on their land when they live there. I just am not used to that, but obviously others are. Then I said to each their own......this is not a contraindication. I appreciate the interaction here, most people are incredibly frank and helpful, and kind, but sometimes I believe that most of the people writing on the forum would not speak to each other in real life in the way they write. Bought and paid for? Isn't land the same?
I don't know where you're from, but here, I WILL CONTROL what happens to the furthest extent allowed, or maybe a bit further? Yes, The wildlife is mine... in a way! I can let hunters in, I can choose not to, I can say what they can hunt!
I'm all for hunting too! Very few people do I turn away, almost the only times are when there has been enough pressure already. Or I just don't like the way you present yourself!
I've never quite came to blows, but it has been very close. Colorado... it is up to the encroacher to know where they are at. I've heard "this is public land" way too many times!
I believe I can legally use any means necessary to remove you, short of deadly force, unless I'm also threatened.
I try to be very moderate with people who actually have an interest in "things". But there have been a very few with no interest, but thierself.
I'm responsible for what happens on "MY PROPERTY"!
Some things that havn't been discussed in this thread, are legalities.... such as noticing a trespasser, and by not asking them to leave, you are possibly giving them "implied consent". That opens another can of worms!
Responsible people are welcome around my little outfit. But, the hardcore do as you wish crowd will recieve a swift kick in the ass!
Not picking on you Hooligan, just giving a different perspective. Glad you let others hunt!

Hundreds of years.
Are you seriously trying to equate wildlife and bought and paid for possessions like a couch and a TV? Do you think you own the wildlife on "your" land?
My land is not posted and I occasionally see a truck parked on the side of the road, mostly during bow season. I get my two dear a year and I am happy to have someone else take theirs. Maybe it will help next years garden. Maybe the guy is bringing his kid to help carry on the tradition of the outdoors and self reliance.
I guess around here not as many people get all wrapped up in what is "THEIRS!!!!" and focus on the big picture a little more.
If your are tired and hungry then please feel free to come on in and have a bite and a rest. Don't mind the dogs. They are big babies.

Hooligan since you have strong opinions and state that where you live that hunting is allowed, etc... I'd like to know what state that is, so I can weigh the location against your posts, and also to allow others that don't see things the same way you do, to stay out of that state if they like to have control of the land they paid for, etc.
Thank you.
Angie

LOL
An internet detective, always willing to get to the bottom of it. LOL
What exactly does "weigh the location against your posts" mean. A paranoid person might think you were calling him a liar at worse or ignorant at best.
One more question, why does it seem that the most outspoken can't seem to read and comprehend? For instance, your implication that landowners in this state don't have control over the land they paid for. Where did I say that? Did you completely miss the part about posting your land to keep others off?
Landowners have as much control over their land here then anywhere else. Even more then the landowners on BLM land out west who have to fence the critters out.
I live in Vermont. Please pass that around as quickly and as far as you can so that you and people who think like you can stay the heck out.

You can cut the insults out when asked a civil question. There were no implied insults.

With four pages of responses, I believe everyone has had a chance to provide their 2 cents on this topic. So, before the arguements get too nasty, I think I will close the thread.
