well bear used to be in these parts but I don't think so anymore. Don't think Lynx are in my area but the rest are. Now I have a new neighbor.

Where in Texas are you? We're outside of Austin (far north), would prefer this animal habitates other parts than mine.
I'm about 3.5. hours south west of you. Towards kerrvile if you know where that is?

It doesn't sound like any Coati noise I've ever heard, they make a chatter or birdlike chirpy sound. They love eggs, most any kind of fruit, and will kill chickens or anything else they can catch and overpower. They have some serious canines and claws.

if you live anywhere near "Sleepy Hollow" I would say it was the headless horseman... and as far as I remember it only harmed Ichabod Crane, but that was never proven...so my advice is ,don't go near the bridge if you are a school teacher......happy Halloween.....mike

There's a few folks around that have animal troughs so it'd would have plenty of water to get.
************** You know, all you have to do is to GOOGLE this animal to see what it eats in the wild. i.e. beetles, grubs, ants, termites, spiders, scorpions, and land crabs), lizards, frogs, small rodents, and some fruit. They will also feed on reptile eggs. So they are quite useful to us and pretty too.

They are also very vocal emitting some high pitched squeaks, clicks and a kind of explosive WOOF!

If you have a good extension service, call them. Also get hold of your state reps at the Nat'l Park Service. They may have some people on staff that can give you some updates also. If they are like our people here they will have an expert on staff who deals with this group of interesting, attractive creatures.

I am a bit jealous that we do not have this species in Oregon! LOL
