Toss mine on the hill where our drive enters the road, for traction

Keep a plastic Coffee can w/lid full of ashes to use when you need traction in the snow or on ice. Just sprinkle on your tires or on the ground. This works GREAT.

The value of putting ashes on ground where anything grows depends on the initial pH. If you have sour soil it might do some good, but if your soil is very alkaline, ashes will make it worse.

Please remember before dumping those ashes that they are cooled down before some poor critter decides to dust themselves in it!

Make sure you are not leaching the lye by accident and then having your little piggie wallow around in a strong enough solution to take the hide and meat off of him!

I wouldn't. The Ph of fresh ashes is high enough that if a pig ingested the ashes, they would burn the pigs mouth and stomach.
