During August we used 326 kwh for a total charge of $57.95. During the winter months our bill will run roughly $90 to $120/mth. This is for just my wife and I. We run one freezer, one fridge, a dryer and of course a washer. We wash once sometimes twice a week. We heat with two pellet stoves and have natural gas heat for backup (gas used occasionally during real cold and windy spells, as we have a old farmhouse).

Stove and hot water heater are natural gas. Our present gas bill is $45.57 for 25 CCF used. Yearly usage averages 471 ccf.

Anyone have a suggestion on how I can get my bride to take 5 minute showers instead of 20 min. showers? ;-) The Lord knows I've tried every trick in the book! LOL

I usually shut down my monitor at night but last night I shut down my desk top. Yes I had to wait for it to start up this a.m. but I will live. I will shut it down every night for the next 30 days and see how much I save. I do have another computer but it is rarely on. My son has a desk top that he always shuts down at night and my other son some times leaves his on so I will make sure I tell him to shut his down all the way at night too to see how well we do with savings.

Around 750 for me. One person, but 45 cows running the water pump all the time, so I would think that's a good chunk of it. But I also have two freezers, one of them old, and probably have a lot of stuff I could be more careful of by unplugging. The computer, electric things that have lights on them even when they are not "on", things like that.

Turn the water off after about 4 minutes, start with the hot water, then the cold. Prepare a rapid escape route first.

I have a small 1300 sq ft house, live alone and used 367 kw last month. I've switched every bulb in the house to the CF ones, unplug the microwave, computer, hair dryer when I leave in the morning - and almost everything large is on propane - dryer, stove, water heater and room heat. I thought I was doing pretty well, but it sounds like some of you are more persons, larger space and are pretty close to what I'm using. I don't know where to cut more!!

We have a 14 X 50 SW MH with 3 persons and a 12 X 36 apartment with 1-2 teenagers and a hot tub, two fridges, 1 upright freezer, MH has an old 2-ton a/c unit that we are replacing with two energystar window units for next summer and the apartment already has one of those. We just went to gas stove/oven, so hope that helps. Apartment has on-demand electric 5 gallon hotwater heater. SW has regular hotwater heater. We hope to go to solar hotwater heater for next summer and solar power on our screened porch so that we can charge laptop, rechargeable batteries, and provide light and tv/satallite/dvd. We currently use about 1700 KWH per month on the average. We hope to get below 1000 for next year and better if cap and trade causes surge on power charges by cutting out many things. In addition, teens will be grown and gone in a few years and the apartment will be going to our place on the river, so that should cut the power even more.

Just got an electric bill. I used 60 kilowatts last month. I have a 1,100 square foot house. I live alone so that accounts for the low amount of power that gets used. I do have AC but only run it a for a few hours during the hottest part of the day. Usually it stays between 60-65 inside the house due to the fact there are no south facing windows and I have blankets covering the ones that do get a lot of sun. I have a small mini-fridge that runs semi regularly and no hot water.

Two people, 1500 sq ft or so, 1 freezer. Ragweed season means high usage of the swamp cooler and clothes dryer, as well as freezing garden produce. Just got a bill yesterday--431 kwh.

1 person, 1700 sq ft home, 207 kw last month. That's pretty much what it is every month.

Was already ready in a bad mood getting the electric bill yesterday($220). Used 2041Kw, down from 2190Kw last month since I turned the ac off. 4 people , 2800 sq home gas stove and gas water heaters. Now reading this tread makes me think what a energy hog I am. MUST FIND OUT WHERE ALL THIS IS GOING! Oh and the barn was 230Kw.... yeah I'm at a loss for words

Yep, need to find out how much that is used. I'm starting to think more than I know. Only 1 desktop computer, but do have an extra refrigerator/freezer in the garage(milk and meat). Turned the satelite off 2 months ago so no watching TV. I have 2 gas hot water heaters, but turned one off so there is only cold water in that part of the house(addition).

yeah.... I don't get it. Also doesn't help them adding a TVA Fuel cost adjustment every month!!!

thanks
Alex

Not enough to turn them off - as long as they are plugged in, they are using electricity.

I'm starting to think something's not right again I always have a feeling the electric is too high but when neighbors say theirs is higher than mine- I automatically think I'm doing ok.

I have a gas furnace but dont't use it-I heat with a wood stove. Just use propane for the stove and 1 hot water heater. The second gas water heater I turned off on the breaker. Is this still sucking some electric????

Ok, no more Lemming for me, I now have a mission and a goal to cut this in half to 1000Kw. If everybody on here can be in the hundreds, surely I can get to 1000Kw.

One tech question, if I go room to room and appliance to appliance and can't find it. What next?? Can you check breaker to breaker??? Yeah I'm not to much on electricity.... can't you tell

thanks
Alex

Yes, you can do breaker to breaker, but don't expect one breaker to necessarily be the "one". You may have more than one load adding up to the total, so look for signifacant drops in current flow, and check out the top two or three circuits.

If you know an electrician who can help you, you can find it faster with a clamp on ammeter. Check each phase coming into your box and determine the overall load. Also look to see if the loads are balanced. Then check the load on each breaker. This should give you a clear picture of what is going on.

We use right around 1,000 a month. 4 people, 1008 sf single story all electric house with 2 freezers, one fridge and well pump. When heating season kicks into high gear we use about 3500 a month when it's real cold. But that was before the woodburner got uncovered, cleaned up, and put back into use.

But that 1000 costs us about $120. Pretty pricy, IMO.
