I'm here, I finally saw everything!

Whodunit, I can appreciate an officer's point of view, but the cops were there the second day the guy was there, my stove was on the lawn, there were several witnesses who said he just moved in, the man admitted to them that I am the owner and he had never given ME any money and he had nothing with my signature. And they decided not to do anything even though this man had threatened my friend with a gun when she went to return the check he had given her (made out in her name, he wanted it cashed asap to give his claim some validity, but the check was NOT made out to me and I've never received anything). He also got very belligerent with the officers, and it's the middle of summer, so it's not like we we're turning kids out into the cold.
The officer just didn't want to be bothered.

Basically, I'm going to have to get a lawyer and sue. Which will really win me nothing, as I'm sure it will cost what the trailer is worth. It's worth it to me though, because I am not letting this lout get away with this. I am not going to sue for cash, I want a lien on anything he owns.

I'll update everyone else in a new thread.

Ak your lawyer if you can get attorney fees as part of your settlement.

Bypass the cops and go to the State's Attorney.

And I agree that the cops are just not wanting to get in the middle of it all. No money changed hands at all... he just moved in and refuses to leave.
It is a shame that all of this is going on with Otter unsettled and on the road etc..
I am putting on my thinking cap. Keep the ideas coming.

You know.. bold people who have the guts to make a move like that guy can pretty much get away with it in this world.
Call the police report it as breaking and entering. As to whatever repairs he claims. She did not authorize his entering much less 'changing' anything within her property it is vandalism plain and simple.

Why not just sell the trailer with him in it?

Sell cheap- avoid the lawyers fee.

Granny, I tried to report it to the cops, they don't care. And if I try to sell it, then I am "harassing" him. Also, the cops did nothing when he threatened my friend with a gun when she tried to give him his check back. I have no doubt that he would also threaten, and possibly do, violence to any innocent bystander who I attempted to sell the trailer to.

I need a lawyer for 2 things;
The obvious, to sue the jerk and get him out
But FAR more important
To get a judge to light a fire under the local cops and get them to DO THEIR JOB. This guy threatened someone WITH A GUN and the cops declared it "a civil matter" and part of "landlord/tenant relationships"

I'm not "shouting" (caps) at you, I'm just so furious, My friend is the mother of 3 children and when she went to the police to tell them she was threatened with a gun (a felony) they refused to let her press charges, refused to take a statement, refused to file a report, refused to get involved. You and I know that legally they CANT refuse to let someone press any charges they want. But they did. Not right.

Go to the FBI and report the police. We had the local sheriff babysitting the local drug dealer andthe sheriff would not do his job. They got on him

I'm praying for you Otter.
Don't let your friend risk her life again. How about mailing the check to him with delivery confirmation (he doesn't have to sign) yet it has some sort of proof that it was delivered.
Add a legal note saying your offer/bid was refused, you are trespassing, and we demand that you vacate the premises immediately.

I agree with TexasArtist report it to the FBI or some other agency. In fact, if you know his name have someone do some checking to make sure he isn't 'wanted' anywhere.
