I wrote an email to them, and I don't think they're in it for exploitation.
Really, the gal with whom I exchanged emails seems very nice, and very interested in people and their lives.
Couldn't hurt to talk to her.
IMO, of course.

While I won't be moving with kids and so would probably be of very little interest to these folks, I think maybe we could all use a small perspective change here for a moment.
One of the topics that constantly comes up here is how other people shouldn't be so sheepish or afraid and embrace even some part of our lifestyle and they would see how much they love it. That is so true. But how do you do that? For many people, there is just no way to visualize their life changing that way or even the remotest knowledge of how to begin.
This could be the show that, regardless of any humor that may wind up in there from people chasing their new chickens, inspires others to embrace even a small part of it. Maybe they'll pluck up courage from watching you, learn new skills and realize that most of what we do isn't rocket science or back breaking, but wonderful in and of itself.
I sure hope some of those here who have so very much to share will consider, at least consider, letting the rest of us learn from them.
My 2.24 cents.

LOL! Love how you adjust for inflation!
And I do agree with you. It's worth a try to perhaps inspire, to help others see that there are different ways of living -- and that eggs DO come from a chicken, not the grocery store!
It was pretty funny this morning, while I was out transferring the chicks from the brooder to the tractors. Those little buggers are FAST! Thank goodness that, when I slipped, I didn't slip in any poo. Then it might not have been so amusing.

[QUOTE=Pony;3962457]
We left the 'burbs last year, and while this place is a shambles (the status moved up from "wreck" to "shambles" sometime in the past month or so), we'd still leave the noise of the suburbs in a heartbeat.
That's like ER talk from 'critical' to 'serious'.
Glad you are making headway.
I myself, am trying to make a path through the garage since my youngest son moved home. I have a really nice JD mower in there that needs repair and haven't been able to locate it for 6 months.

LOL! Well, Nick got up on the ladder again today, and scraped the paint from the guest room window (this same window was nothing but a suggestion of glass on part of it; the rest was a hodge-podge of plywood, styrofoam, and plastic). We may actually be warm enough to string a cogent sentence this Winter!
And isn't it bragging just a bit to tell us that you actually KNOW what's in your garage? Heehee... Nick's dad very kindly helped him plow a path through the garage when he was here a month or so ago.
I think the 'rents are worried about us. Dad sent a check to help pay for windows or roofing. Since the roofing cost is way higher than the windows, the windows are getting done.

When I was first contacted (an e-mail out of the blue) about the HBO Alzheimer's documentary my Mom and I were in, I was thinking scam too. I was interviewing them as much as they were interviewing me to see if we were right for the documentary. After three months of discussions, I was satisfied that there wasn't any exploitation involved, and allowed them to come film our life for four days. It sounds like this situation would be for a longer period, of course. It amazed me how quickly we both got used to having a camera and sound person follow us around. Don't get me wrong, it was exhausting, and hard too, but I am glad we did it.
Somebody upthread was talking about being an inspiration for others. I certainly never expected our life to be inspirational, because it's just our life. Judging from the e-mails and letters I've received though, we have helped other people who are going through the same thing.
I guess I'm just encouraging others who fit what they are looking for to go ahead and contact them. Ask a lot of questions, interview them as much as they interview you, research the production company, director and producer online. If you're not comfortable with what you find out, say no. You just never know whose life you may affect. The more homesteaders, the better, right?
