just a thought.... could you pour the container with flies out, holding it high up and as it falls to the next container have a fan blowing across the stream of falling food so the dust and flies get blown away from the it... do that a few times and there shouldn't be many flies.

what spills have the birds, dog or cats clean up

That's a cool idea, I don't know if my fan is strong enough...

I know the food is probably fine but it is just gross to me. I am going to slowly feed it to the chickens and take some to the park to feed the fish and ducks.

And georgec, I am not feeding people food like pizza or aything, I am feeding meat and veggies and grains! Lots of people do that!

MANY yrs ago my father would make his coon dogs food from corn meal...he'd cook it and add stuff. I was too small to remember but if we have stale corn chips. I soak them in water and add treats...our dog loves this.
