just measured the outlet and it's threaded.. 2 1/2" OD.. I here this is a standard size but got to look around. the guy at lowes sold me the wrong one (told him the size and he ended up getting me the 2".. argg)

the top inlet is 6" OD.. I'm thinking if you're wanting to use this as a rain barrel you can pickup one of those 6" offset downspout adaptors..

I'll try to post a pic in a little while.

That's a 2" male camloc the grove is where the cam ears in the female half clamp fast. & I think Granger or McMaster Carr would have the parts...

One supplier makes reducers w/ the smaller opening offset to allow total drain.

Searrch under Dixon Valve - 'boss' cam and grove fittings

I've got one. When it is empty it is fairly light and I can loaded on the back of my C2500 PU. I use it to tote water to my orchard. I hooked up a hose bibb to the bottom valve and just let the water drain around the trees. Works good and my was free.

I used a 2" PVC female fitting to screw onto the bottom valve. The threads on the bottom valve aren't NPS but it was close enough so with a little teflon tape it doesn't leak. I installed a 2"-3/4" reducer with threaded insert into the PVC fitting and then the hose bibb into that.

The recycling center in Ava, Mo had them last summer starting at $35.00, depending on how clean and how good of shape they were in. By the time I got a way to haul them, they were sold out. I heard they got more in since, but I haven't checked.

Several friends did buy them though. A couple are being used under downsouts and at least one friend raises fish in a couple of them. A chainsaw will cut the plastic if you want to remove the top.

I'm not sure what it takes to adapt the bottom tap to a garden hose, but it can be done with local off-the-shelf parts.

Yes, I'm guilty. I've got a 275 gallon tote tank for my cistern. I fill it from my neighbor's well in exchange for feeding his animals while he's at work.

I pressurize the system with a 3 gpm RV water pump I got at eBay for $50.

It goes to a 40 gallon propane water heater.

Then both hot and cold go into the house with color-coded PEX tubing.

Then the 3 gpm provides a pretty good shower.

Windy, Take it easy on the curves and start stopping ahead of time. That liquid could really give you an exiting pickup ride if you get a little rambunchous on the controls.
I drive a tanker truck hauling bulk water, it's an old milk truck with 3700 gallon capacity and no baffles. Brim full or empty, no problem, half or three quarter load, what a pain! I've learned to shift on the forward slosh but if it's not done properly, it can actually bring the truck to a stop between the lower gears. Half a load really leans in the corners too. If I have to make a quick stop, the water slamming into the front part of the tank sounds like a sledgehammer. Some days it's quite an adventure!

I used to get them from the local beacon plant they held liquid smoke .
they were a pain to clean .
we had one set up for a live well pump filter the works you could keep 7 5pound bass a live for weeks .
we also used the damaged ones for holding aluminum cans we have 4 of them full of cans at the moment hoping the price comes up .
we have also used them for coon traps cut a little larger hole in the top and attach a spring loaded hinge to a refrigerator shelf for a door drop in a jar of grape jelly and you'll get a coon .
cut the top and bottom off then make a single cut down one side .
Using a heat gun flatten the tank and you have a nice 1/8 thick slick sheet of plastic .
cut the bottom off and build a raised bed to fit it and you have a nice mini green house .
they have a ton of uses

Hey.

A guy I know who sells plastic barrels washes the insides out with a pressure washer setup. In lieu of a pump, the higher the tote is off the ground from the hose nozzle, the greater the pressure. Also, remove the plug on top when watering to get a faster flow.

just found one of them cam lock connectors..

$17.. Ouch.

Gonna try to figure something else out.. lol

Since the ID is 1 3/4 and OD is 2 1/2 I'm thinking.

I could maybe get one of them rubber adaptors thats 2" and strech it to go over but thats gonna be kinda flimsy.

1 1/2" pcv will not fit inside (that measure must be ID) did locate a piece of pipe that is 1 1/2 od and it fits but is loose.. hmmm

A camloc won't drip/leak, they have a gasket 'Ring' that seals the top/front. They sell caps w/ lockable cams...security!

If you buy them from the end user they could point out the closest/cheapest.

Call Girard Equipment in Rahway, NJ...not cheap but they can ship/get ANYTHING in cam and grove...a reducer from your male to a 1" would work.

To reduce the sloshing, cut clean boards as long as you can get thru the top hole. put in 3-4 and you will be surprised how much the sloshing is reduced.

I got one for free awhile back.
I keep it now down by the pig wallow.
Keeps the mudhole refreshed because it has been so dry lately.
I have it strapped to a 3-point hay fork and only have to fill it about every 10days.
I just fill it back up and leave it there. It has a slow drip at the valve so it works out pretty well. The cage is stout enough it holds up to the rubbing they put it through.

I have a friend who uses several of these for bio-fuel. He collects used cooking oil from three places in the 5-gallon containers it came in. He lets these just sit to settle out. Then pours off the top oil several times into a different container. Eventually has just the oil, not the glunk. That is then poured into one of these. Bottom fitting goes to two filters, first a 20mc, then a 5mc. Then to his diesel vehicles, with the ratio to diesel depending on the season. Last time I was there he had two sitting off to the side full of processed oil.

He has an outdoor wood furnace he runs year around for hot water. He plumbed in a loop within the container to help final separation.

PS: Local hunters also use them for blinds.

We have three that are hooked together with pvc. We use these to water the garden and orchard. See the video for the set up.

Try splitting open a bag of charcoal briquettes and leaving it in there a day or two. You would be surprised how fast charcoal works to get rid of smells. It works great in pickle jugs. I just wash them in soapy water and then toss in a few.
